I have several but will not hog all the best ones.

My favorite is Russell Crowe as James Braddock in "Cinderella Man". Directed by Ron Howard and co starring Paul Giamatti. I found this to be an excellent movie from the boxing genre..

I will add one old one as unlike many I still very much enjoy old back and white movies from the 40s and 50s.

The 1956 movie "Somebody Up There Likes Me" with a young Paul Neuman starring as Rocky Graziano. Tremendous performance by Newman playing the born on the wrong side of the Bronx, NY tracks Rocky Graziano. Directed by Robert Wise, character actor Harold J. Stone stands out as Rocky's beaten by life father.

The late Harold J. Stone who passed in 2005 at the ripe old age of 94 had a 50 plus year career of playing tough guys mostly on TV shows like The Untouchables, Bonanza, The Rockford Files etc etc..

Anyway, there a lot more outstanding movies based on Boxing with Raging Bull probably the all time best.

What are your favorites?

I've always thought that Diggstown was criminally underrated as both a movie and a boxie movie. Great job by James Woods and Louis Gosset.

Denzel as Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in The Prison/boxing movie "The Hurricane" is well worth watching.

Anthony Quinn as Mountain Rivera and Jackie Gleason as his desperate for cash manager due to gambling debts to leg breaking bookies Maish Remmick, along with the sympathetic to Mountain corner man Army played by Mickey Rooney are memorable in the film version of Requiem for a Heavyweight.

Written by Twilight Zone fame writer/producer Rod Sterling the story was actually a bigger hit on TV with Jack Palance playing the Quinn role with the name Mountain McClintock.

The New York Times called Serling's teleplay "an artistic triumph." The film version was never the critical or commercial sucess that the TV drama was, much to Serling's disappointment, who had hoped the project would give him an entry into the far more respectable film world.

Luckily in a way he didn't go into movies or there may have never been a Twilight Zone. Funny how things work out.

Anyway Anthony Quinn was truly unforgettable as Mountain Rivera in the movie version. Palance was no slouch himself in The Playhouse 90 TV version. Great actors all over the place.

I watched the Tony Quinn movie not long ago on TCM (ch.67 on Amnet)..

Million Dollar Baby was very good except for the head injury scene which was IMO really bogus. After knocking down the defending champ Maggie turns her back at the bell and before she can reach her corner her opponent moves toward her while the referee isn't looking. She takes a deadly shot at the side of Maggie's head and sends her landing on her head on the corner stool, breaking her neck. Maggie suffers spinal neck injury that leaves her paralyzed for life. Meanwhile like nothing unusual occured the dirty fighter stays champ..

In real boxing she would be stripped of her belt and probably face criminal charges. Just unrealistic in my opinion.

"Gladiator" /w a young cuba gooding and some dude who never ammounted to much. Brian denneghy was in it too. Fun flick. I like diggstown a lot as well. Those are the fun ones, but I think the true greats are raging bull, cinderella man, ali, and when we were kings (hurricane to a lesser extent as there's just not a lot of boxing if I remember correctly).
