me and my dad went on what we called our annual training camp trip... we would drive to a few nfl training camps a year while fitting in a few mlb games each trip as well. for example we would start at home in toronto, drive to cleveland then cincinatti (georgetown, ky), then pittsburgh, buffalo and home. every year we would do a different trip, trying to see as many different teams as possible (home to chicago, green bay, indianapolis, detroit, home... home to albany-giants, ny for the jets, washington, philly, baltimore then home)
my favourite one however went like this... started at home then went to pittsburgh for a day, got to meet alot of players in their very fan friendly atmosphere there, then enjoyed camp, then went to a pirates game at night. the next day we drove to kentucky for bengals practise which we stayed for a day or 2. then we went from kentucky to tennessee where we enjoyed the titans training camp for 2 days. this was awesome because by coincidence, we happened to be staying at the same hotel as the team. i got to meet all the players, get all their autographs, and at the time, kyle vanden bosch (one of the nicest guys you will meet) actually took me up to the floor that was 'reserved' for titans players only. i got to spend time throwing the ball with a few players and he gave me some of his equipment (gloves, wristband, and a titans shirt)... from Tennessee we went to atlanta where we spent a day at the awesome facility they have there, then caught a braves game at night. after atlanta we stopped off at jacksonville where i got to meet my one of my favourite players in fred taylor. i met mjd as well, among others but this was a bit before mjd made a name for himself in the league. after jacksonville we went to tampa (in disney world) which was one of my least favourite camps. lots of ppl and it is not at all very fan friendly in terms of player interaction. after tampa we went to miami where we stayed for a few days then ended it off by driving to my grandparents place in fort meyers florida.
these trips were always the thing i most looked forward to every summer until we just stopped doing them when i got older and my dad made me get a summer job, which is really too bad. i loved being at the camps, enjoying the atmosphere, eating at appleby's and ruby tuesdays every night, spending time with my dad and mostly i loved trying to get autographs and meet all the players.
