This has been a subject of speculation since Chester Taylor's exit, but it's nice to see confirmation from the head coach. Peterson already doubled his career-high in receptions last year, and he should see another uptick in 2010. Once considered a much better value in standard scoring leagues, Peterson could flirt with 50-55 receptions this season. Toby Gerhart will be utilized as a more traditional backup.

Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings NFL Network's Mike Mayock predicts that Adrian Peterson "could get 400 touches this year" if Brett Favre indeed retires.
Mayock attended Vikings camp Tuesday and interviewed Brad Childress. "I believe Adrian Peterson is going to get more touches than in any time during his career," said Mayock. "... They're going to have to get conservative. We hate the term `manage the game.' But that's what Tarvaris Jackson's gonna have to do. I don't think Sidney Rice is gonna have 83 receptions." August 3

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>"We've got to find a third-down back," quarterback Brett Favre said. "Are we going to use Toby, Albert or Adrian? One more than the other? I really don't know." The team would like Young or Gerhart to step up, because Peterson's pass protection skills are sub-par, but so far neither player has. The Vikes could be missing Chester Taylor more than they thought.

It's obviously not going to come close to happening, but there are indications that the Vikes plan go with a ground 'n' pound attack against Miami this week. Peterson is a good bet for 25+ touches on Sunday.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>With Brett Favre struggling, Peterson has consistently faced eight and nine men in the box. Moss' addition may not solve Minnesota's run-blocking flaws, but the offensive line will benefit from simply having fewer defenders to beat off the snap. Moss requires constant double teams, something no Vikings wideout could command in the first three games, outside of Percy Harvin on occasion. Already averaging 5.6 yards per carry, the idea of Peterson now facing consistent nickel defenses is scary. He's now the favorite to lead all running backs in fantasy points this season.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>They could just fine him, but there's precedent for Peterson sitting out a series or two. AP has been disciplined by coach Brad Childress twice before, once for showing up late to the team's bus and once for showing up late to a meeting. He missed one series of a game for the first incident and two series for the second. However, both of those occurrences happened the day before a game, so the penalty could be less harsh since it came on a Monday.

The stud running back got his ankle trapped underneath him while being tackled by Redskins LB Lorenzo Alexander and picked up 70 total yards with a touchdown before leaving. Peterson watched the rest of the game with his pads on from the sideline, hinting at a "standard" ankle sprain.

"Now it's just a matter of what he can or can't do," said Frazier. "We'll know a little more (Wednesday) as he tries to put some weight on it and move around. We're anxious to find out how he comes along." Peterson is expected to be limited if he practices at all on Wednesday. He could end up as a game-time decision against a weak Bills run defense, so Peterson owners should have Toby Gerhart on hand for insurance.

Adrian Peterson - RB - Vikings Interim coach Leslie Frazier confirmed that Adrian Peterson (ankle) has "had two good days" of practice this week.
"A little gimpy, but he's better," said Frazier. "Tremendously better. You saw what he did in that ballgame (last weekend). As long as he doesn't have a setback, it should be no problems on Sunday." December 9 - 5:13 p.m. ET

"He ran just as hard as he's ever run -- there just wasn't much running room for him." The knee isn't a concern for Week 15.
