Never hocked anything before. I've got a little bit of gold. Is a pawn shop obviously the best place? Someone told me a jeweler. I have no clue, so I figured I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.:think2:

Lots of places buying gold now, look around and see who will offer you the best deal.

Many of these local places are rip-offs, they just sell it to a refiner and act as a middleman.

Shop around, most places will offer you around 1/4 of it's worth. My wife is the manager at a jewelry store so she buys a lot - be nice and you could get more, if you act desperate or look like you are on drugs expect to get lowballed big time.

Hey man, you're in Ohio?

Tribe logo?

If you are serious i have a guy in Akron, near the valley that owns a jewelry store. He could tell you what it is worth, maybe go from there.

A more honest jeweler/ coin dealer/ pawnbroker would pay around 75% of melt value. Your wife works for thieves !

The refinery is the way to go unless you need the money instantly. Get several offers if selling locally, horrible buyers are popping up everywhere.

I guess you are selling it ?

hock means pawn to me....as in you want to borrow against it then get it back later.

Yes Doug, sorry I forgot to say I'm selling it. This ought to be pretty interesting as I've never done this before and don't really know what to expect. Hopefully, I look like I'm not on drugs or desperate...but some may disagree.

No offense Doug but you are nuts. If you have someone you know that actually pays 75% then you are lucky. Most guys pay about what I said...gold buying is a cash business - everything is pocketed. Folks lie about money all the time - pawn dealers and jewerly especially.

It's my old wedding ring. I've been divorced for about 5 years now. I actually thought I lost it a few years ago....thought I accidently swept it up in a vacuum cleaner. I remember thinking, 'should I even bother looking in the bag'. I did...I couldn't find it and thought it was long gone. Then I just found it a few weeks ago in my room.
