Report: Red Sox Interested in Lance Berkman :think2:

by John Beattie on Jul 30, 2010 3:30:13 PM

It's amazing what a hot streak can do.
Just last week, virtually no one was interested in Astros first baseman Lance Berkman, but thanks to a hot bat over the last three games, many teams -- Red Sox included -- have called Houston with offers for Sir Lance, according to ESPN.com.
Berkman is 5-for-10 with a homer and five RBIs in his last three games. With Houston bagging 23-year-old slugging first baseman Brett Wallace in the recent Roy Oswalt deal, Berkman's future at the bag is in jeopardy.
"Berkman's going to go," on AL executive told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.
In addition to Boston, the White Sox, Yankees and Rays have all checked out Berkman, but the same exec predicts the Yankees will swoop in and get this done if they miss out on Washington's Adam Dunn. Should no team bag him by the deadline, Berkman is expected to clear waivers, so he could easily find a new team by September.
Berkman is hitting .245 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs in 85 games played -- all of which at first base. The 34-year-old slugger has played the majority of his career in the outfield, but hasn't even touched the outfield dirt since the 2007 season when he played just 31 games there.
