It sounds like the Cubbies might be willing to do a straight Perez-for-Zambrano swap, but they didn't want Castillo included in the deal, as well. Perez and Castillo are due roughly $24 million combined through 2011 and then would come off the books, while Zambrano is due over $60 million through 2013. Although Zambrano clearly has the most talent left among the three, we certainly wouldn't blame the Cubs for his dumping his salary in a deal like this. It remains to be seen if the two teams can work something out.
