Okay let me start off by saying almost every winter I gain 20 lbs and then lose it all in the summer. Been doing this off and on for years. Pretty simple stuff just eating less then 1,600 calories a day for a couple months and eventually after an average weight loss of around 2lbs a week, I drop 15-20lbs or so. Basically it's just controlling my portion sizes and eating anything I want without ever going over my daily calories.
These past few weeks I have hit a number that I can't get off of so after reading the fasting thread I decided to read up on it a bit more. So I thought I would give it a try and see if I could first go 24 stright hours without eating.
It isn't nothing to be overly proud of but I think it was the first time in my life that I remember not eating anything all day or for that long. Maybe a few times I was close to that but I don't remember. In all honesty it didn't seem to hard to do because some days I usually don't eat for about 12-14 hours anyways from night time to the late morning.
I drank a glass of milk and had a granola bar before bed Monday night and didn't eat the entire day yesterday till about 10:30pm last night (24 hours) and had the same thing, a night time snack and went to bed. Now I am not sure if this counts as a whole day but I did go exactly 24 hours between eating anything and many places I read said to try this first and go from there.
I woke up this morning and had lost about 2.5 lbs, which I was pretty happy about that. Drank some water yesterday but only about 8 ounces and had nothing else during that span.
Tomorrow I am going to try and go 36 hours, eating before bed tonight and then actually going to bed tomorrow night without eating, which that won't be easy for me. At times yesterday I thought this was how I was going to do it but come night time I knew I couldn't make it to the next morning. It was the only time I wanted to give in yesterday was at night, I just hate going to bed on an empty stomach.
I read where some say its a really good idea to lose or maintain weight by doing fasting 1-2 times a week and many do it throughout their lifves for different health benefits. If I can do this without any problems I may do something like this every week from here on out.
I am stopping there though, I have no desire to go longer then maybe 2 days at a time. They do say that after the 2nd day things get a lot easier with it and I know from starting my so called diet once a year, that the same thing is true with that, after about the 2nd day things get way easier as you almost have to train yourself to not want to eat and the cravings seem to start to slow down. I do think a lot of eating is a habit also as I must have walked by and wanted to open the refrigerator 10 times yesterday.
