"Everyone knows the kind of runner he is, the kind of ability he has when the ball's under his arm," said Ryan, adding that Greene is "much better in the pass protection game." Ryan tried to save face by lightly praising LaDainian Tomlinson, but the backfield is Greene's moving forward. His improvement in blitz pickup also bodes well for a few more receiving opportunities.

Shonn Greene - RB - Jets Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer "adamant" suggested Thursday that another fumble this week would land Shonn Greene back in the doghouse.
Schottenheimer indicated that Greene -- or any other player -- would come out of the game immediately, if only temporarily. Considering Greene's performance last week, the visit to the sidelines would be lengthy in nature if he coughs up the ball once again. September 16 - 5:21 p.m. ET

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Tomlinson's resurgence is pretty striking. He's visibly faster this season with his cuts and picking holes. The broken tackles are the icing on the cake. We still expect the 31-year-old former workhorse to wear down, but for now he's a better bet for production than Shonn Greene.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Greene is averaging 12.2 touches per game, but the Jets want LaDainian Tomlinson fresh for the stretch run and playoffs. Whether the anticipated "increased role" turns Greene into a realistic RB2 remains to be seen, but he's earned more carries with a 4.5 YPC average and no lost fumbles since the opener. He's worth flex consideration against Green Bay in Week 8.

It's only fair with Greene severely outplaying Tomlinson over the past four games. "It hasn't gone unnoticed (by Jets decision makers)," says La Canfora of Greene's 4.80 yards-per-carry average to Tomlinson's 3.68 since Week 4. "To expect L.T. to finish the season the way he started it might be a bit naive." Greene was a first-half fantasy bust, but the Jets can't continue to keep him on the back burner when he's the best option in the backfield. Greene should be in line for 12-15 touches in Week 10 at Cleveland. The arrow is pointing dangerously downward for Tomlinson's fantasy value.
