Would betting $100 bucks on the Padres to win the NL be a waste of throw away money?

They have better than a decent shot. Their pitching ERA and Defense are the best in all of baseball. The only team that could keep them from winning the NL West is the Giants and already their pitching is starting to show tired arms. So far this season the Pads are 7-1 against the Giants and this weekends series is a big one.

I'm partial to them because before the season started I made a $250 bet on them to just win the NL West at +3000. I'm seeing they are +500 to win the NL Pennent which are good odds when compared to Philly, San Francisco, St. Louis, Atlanta and Cinc, all of which pay less than 5-1. People still don't think San Diego is for real. I don't see any runaway NL team and playing the team with the best pitching and defense I think is better than playing a team with so-so pitching and above average offsense. One last point. Take a look at which NL team has the best Won-Loss record and also the best Road Record. That should help answer your question. If I didn't already have 30-1 to just win the Division, I would play them even now at only 5-1 to win the entire NL.

Good Luck whatever you decide and don't forget they traded for Ludwick and Tejada which with Gonzalez finally gives them some offense. You could make the bet and hedge a little bit back if they make the playoffs which you know how I feel about that happening. I wish you would have seen my post back in early April, saying what a great play they were at 30-1 to win a weak Division.

Pitching wins, and SD's staff is as good as anyones.
I'd do it at a nice price.

It's better bet than a Van Hagar concert with out David Lee Roth.

So, donkeybucks, what did you decide to do. I may be wrong but I think people should share with everyone who took the time to try to help them, if they took their advice or not.

AND if you did not make the play, even after tonights win, you can still get San Diego to win the NL at +500. I know I would play it if I didn't already have a future bet. You could bet your $100 and then when San Diego makes the playoffs, you can hedge your $100 bet by playing the other playoff team. That way if Diego wins the NL playoff, you would lose your two $100 hedge bets but still win your $500 for a net win of $300. Should San Diego lose in Round One, you would lose your origional $100 bet, but would win your $100 hedge bet to break even. The worst example would be San Diego winning Round One and Losing the second round. You lose your 100 hedge bet but would win your other 100 hedge bet, meaning you would lose $!00 overall. That's the only way you would lose more than just juice. Otherwise you either win or at worst breakeven. Good Luck if you try this and let us know how everything turned out.
