i just ordered one and there is a $2 delivery charge, does this tip go to the drivers?

If so, doen't seem like a bad gig if you can get 10 or so deliveries per hour.

10 deliveries per hour seems very unlikely

I used to deliver pizza when I was 19.
Friday night, crappy night weather wise, mid size city, sometimes you'd get 3 deliveries at the same time in a 7 block radius, takes 15-20 minutes to complete, come back, you might have 3 more like that, 6 or 7 in an hour max, ten is unlikely.

$2 delivery charge goes to shop not driver driver is on hourly rate and some places give gas allowance, others do not so tip your driver accordingly

I did for a few years. The delivery charge mostly goes to the store. They give like 50 cents a delivery to the driver to pay for gas and get to keep the rest.

Usually you get 4-8 deliveries an hour on a busy night. About 2-5 on a normal one. I think I was making close to $18/hour but I was also getting paid more per hour than anyone else because I'm a smooth talker like that.

That's BULLshIt, I'll save my dollars for place that doesn't have that charge, unless it's going to the driver.

Delivery charge is a price increase. Cost of ingredients have gone up. Also insurance and a way to 'keep' your pizza price the same without raising prices. Delivery drivers are getting pinched because most people think that they get that delivery charge...they probably don't even see 50 cents of it.

What's worst about delivering pizzas is when you get there, they look at the pizza before paying, say it's wrong, someone fucked up, waste time to drive back instead of getting tips from other orders, drive the correct pizza back out there, and the people have the mindset "fuck you, I'm not tipping for pizza that took this long".

Awesome.

were you ever tempted to "tamper" with the pizza because you knew the person who ordered it was a dick?

Oh I fucked with lots of pizzas if they were douche bags. Nobody ever returned the pubic hair pizzas surprisingly.

Most places now have a sliding scale for drivers depending on the price of gas. When I was driving, the scale was anywhere between $0.75 and $1.25. Our place had a $1.50 delivery surcharge and management told customers who asked that the extra money went to insurance for the drivers (total bullshit by the way).

Drivers can make anywhere between $10/hour and $20/hour depending on where they are, what store they work for, how busy they are, etc. Our place was great, we had a driver who was there for 10+ years and made enough to own two houses and a BMW.
