Any handymen out there?

My TV screen went suddenly black the other day. That is, when i press
the power on/off button nothing happens. Still can read the channel
on the black box, and have power to insert/remove DVD's from the
DVD player. All the cords seem to be in place, so i guess this cheap
4 year old $400 27" "flat screen" Toshiba from Future Shop has died
on me. Or needs a new picture tube? Any thoughts?

Incubus, i remember the old antena tv's. Mines not that old though!

Any recommendations for a new TV? Maybe it's time to upgrade the DVD player, too,
so i can play BluRay movies. I'm concerned DVD's may go extinct soon like their
predecessors have already from BB & other rental shops.

I own a couple of 50 inch Sony KDF-E50A10 setups. One for downstairs in the living room, and the other one for my bedroom.

Same exact setup as pictured. Including the stand for both. Some may say these are dinosaurs, but they are AWESOME to me - especially with the HD! @):)

I also have Sony home theatres for both televisions. Model # BDV-E500W. Here's a photo.

Got GREAT deals on eBay. That's where I got all of this. Brand new overstock with warranties.

I'm thrilled with my Sony components. Watching sports, movies, DVDs, etc. = AWESOME!

X:

I think your avatar girl whacked your tv with one or both of the missiles of that rack. She could knock out the power in NYC, with that set!

Thanks, Incubus, for the info on TV deals. It seems the problem was a reset issue.
I didn't realize TV's are like PC's in that way; restarting the PC often solves various
problems and, if i'm not just imagining it, seems to even speed up the surfing.
With the piece of junk i have now, i'll probably need new stuff soon, anyway, so
keep your recommendations in mind.

Our Sanyo TV is about 3 years old. It had been on for several hours, and suddenly the screen went black, no sound, no picture. When you turn it on via the remote,it clicks on, the green power light comes on, then goes off, and you hear another click(like it is shutting off)No sound or picture during this time. Have had no other problems at all with it. Help? Thanks!

------------------------

ONE: First, do a hard reset of the internal works of the tv. This can be done by disconnecting the power cord from the power line. Leave it disconnected for at least 4 hours or overnight. This is a must of all first things to do.

TWO: If the reset does nothing, then you have two problems. A) The power protection circuits have taken over and are shutting off the power to the set, but the are doing it because B) there is something in the circuitry that is drawing too much current and the power protection system is shutting off the power to protect the set from further harm.

THREE: So, it will either have to be serviced by a trained tech who can understand what is going on, or you will have to replace the tv set.

FOUR: The rule of thumb for a set this old is if the cost of repair is more than 50% of the cost of a replacement set, then you should replace, not repair.

FIVE: The repair for a defective horizontal deflection and high voltage system (that is probably what it is) may be as high as $175 plus or minus. So, you should consider carefully. Try to find a service facility that will give you a free estimate up front. Many of them will, but you have to lug the set in for them to look at it.

Sanyo is a fine product, so don't feel badly about it being one in a thousand that has developed a problem. They are one of the most reliable brands around, generally speaking.

Hope you can get it running again,

Ihave a 32 in RCA TV. The TV blacked out and wont come back on. I push the power switch and the red light comes on but nothing else. If I try to turn the power off it wont respond

------------------------------

Surely, there are other technical faults, ask your TV repairman or service agent. Assess the cost of repairs, whether it is expensive or rather purchase a new LCD or Plasma TV, these types of TV are very competitive in the market, and these products are affordable. I think SONY is a better brand.

---------------------------

Unplug it for about a half an hour then plug it back in. That's what we had to do with a TV we used to have. If that doesn't work then you probably need a new TV.

hello,it's the I.C that got bad,so all you need to do is just to replace the bad one with a new one to have your TV powering on as normal
