Based on three major factors:
1.) Save/Save Opportunities
2.) Walks & Hits/Innings Pitched
3.) Win-Loss Record – When the game is on the line

TOP PERFORMERS – Guys that if you are on the other side, you are in some serious trouble.

#1. Rafael Soriano – T.B. Rays
34 of 36 SV/O → 0.84 WHIP → 2-1 W/L Record
#2. Heath Bell – San Diego Padres
35 of 38 SV/O → 1.22 WHIP → 5-0 W/L Record
#3. Joakim Soria – K.C. Royals
33 of 35 SV/O → 1.14 WHIP → 0-2 W/L Record
#4. Brian Wilson – S.F. Giants
33 of 36 SV/O → 1.26 WHIP → 3-1 W/L Record
#5. Mariano Rivera – N.Y. Yankees
24 of 26 SV/O → 0.71 WHIP → 3-2 W/L Record
#6. Jose Valverde –Detroit Tigers
23 of 24 SV/O → 1.12 WHIP → 1-3 W/L Record
#7. Ryan Franklin – St. Louis Cardinals
21 of 23 SV/O → 1.08 WHIP → 6-2 W/L Record

SOLID PERFORMERS – One notch below the best in the league.

#8. Neftali Feliz – Texas Rangers
29 of 32 SV/O → 0.99 WHIP → 3-3 W/L Record
#9. John Axford – Milwaukee Brewers
17 of 19 SV/O → 1.25 WHIP → 7-1 W/L Record
*Note: Axford may share time with T. Hoffman, but with 7 wins against 1 loss and a solid WHIP he is Tier II material.

#10. Andrew Bailey – Oakland A’s
20 of 23 SV/O → 0.99 WHIP → 1-3 W/L Record
#11. Brian Fuentes – L.A. Angels
23 of 27 SV/O → 1.16 WHIP → 4-1 W/L Record
#12. Kevin Gregg – Toronto Blue Jays
27 of 31 SV/O → 1.27 WHIP → 1-4 W/L Record
#13. Bobby Jenks – Chicago White Sox
23 of 26 SV/O → 1.49 WHIP → 1-3 W/L Record
*Note: Currently he is on the DL. Jenks should be back this season. White Sox have good relief pitching to fill-in, despite a blown save vs. the Tigers over the weekend.

INCONSISTENT PERFORMERS – Just a cut below the Tier II closers.

#14. Matt Capps – Minnesota Twins
30 of 35 SV/O → 1.29 WHIP → 4-3 W/L Record
*Note: Capps hasn’t been great since the switch to the National league.
#15. Carlos Marmel – Chicago Cubs
21 of 25 SV/O → 1.24 WHIP → 2-2 W/L Record

BIG NAMES, NOT SO BIG TIME PERFORMERS in 2010 – Don’t get dazzled by the name on back of the jersey. In 2010 these two closers are dangerous at times, but not very good so far.

#16. Billy Wagner – Atlanta Braves
29 of 36 SV/O → 0.89 WHIP → 6-2 W/L Record
*Note: Wagner has pretty much lost his closing job on a full-time basis. He shares time with T. Saito who has some nice stuff, as well.
#17. Jonathan Papelbon – Boston Red Sox
29 of 35 SV/O → 1.14 WHIP → 4-5 W/L Record

STILL LOTS OF BASEBALL LEFT; When these guys are trying to close out games.

#18. Leo Nunez – Florida Marlins
26 of 33 SV/O → 1.20 WHIP → 4-2 W/L Record
#19. Francisco Cordero – Cincinnati Reds
32 of 38 SV/O → 1.56 WHIP → 3-4 W/L Record
#20. David Aardsma – Seattle Mariners
23 of 28 SV/O → 1.19 WHIP → 0-6 W/L Record
#21. Brad Lidge – Philadelphia Phillies
16 of 20 SV/O → 1.35 WHIP → 1-1 W/L Record
#22. Matt Lindstrom – Houston Astros
22 of 28 SV/O → 1.64 WHIP → 2-4 W/L Record

VERY RISKY WAGERING ON THESE TEAMS or CLOSERS; when these closers are on the mound.

#23. Alfredo Simon – Baltimore Orioles
17 of 21 SV/O → 1.56 WHIP → 3-2 W/L Record
*Note: Simon is not officially the full-time closer, and he has some pretty good competition in the bullpen that should last the rest of the season.
#24. Chris Perez – Cleveland Indians
14 of 18 SV/O → 1.20 WHIP → 1-2 W/L Record
#25. L.A. Dodgers – Bullpen by committee right now.
*Note: Broxton has been removed from full-time closer roll. RP Kuo has showed signs of good closing ability; he is 4 of 5 SV/O. RP Dotel may also be thrown into the mix if the Dodgers cannot gain some consistency in this area.
#26. N.Y. Mets – No definite closer. CL Rodriguez is likely out for the season. RP Parnell is a good RP, but 0 of 2 SV/O so far.
#27. Houston Street – Colorado Rockies
8 of 11 SV/O → 1.03 WHIP → 2-4 W/L Record
*Note: Street may be ranked here at #27, but he has top tier stuff. He is also trying to reestablish himself after a long stint on the DL.
#28. Drew Storen – Washington Nationals
2 of 2 SV/O → 1.21 WHIP → 3-2 W/L Record
#29. Aaron Heilman – Arizona Diamondbacks
6 of 11 SV/O → 1.33 WHIP → 3-3 W/L Record
#30. Pittsburgh Pirates – The Pirates really have only bad choices when deteriming who should close out games for them, since the departure of O. Dotel. RP Hanrahan is 1 of 4 SV/O and Meek is a dismal 1 of 7 SV/O.
