The deal that would send Lee to the Braves has not been finalized, but sources characterize the trade as nearly done. One holdup has been Lee's balky back, which has kept him sidelined the last two games. The trade was first discussed Sunday evening when the Braves called Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and expressed interest after learning that one of their best offensive players, Chipper Jones, was lost for the season with a knee injury. Lee declined to speak to the media before Wednesday's game against the Padres at Wrigley Field.

Wow- this would be huge... Would be the last straw the phils need to not only close gap but take 5 game lead.... This dude shoulda been wearing a ski mask when he went to cash his game check at Chicago banks... Flat out stealing the money.

Haven't seen a guy getting more than 10 mil a year leave so many runners at 3 rd with less than 2 out after the 7 th in tied or 1 run games EVER... He defines " unclutch"

in philly they used to say Bobby abreu had "hollow" numbers . IE he'd homer in 10 run blowouts steal 2nd and 3 rd when it didn't matter... Derek lee is the classic bases empty Hr hitter in 8 run losses.

Good luck Atlanta- there's a reason no one wants this pile of dung

Btw I'm sure people will come in here and say what a great guy he is and all that... Consider the alternative- u would be candy sweet and nice to the media if u were an overpaid bad defensive under hitting cleanup hitter on the lovable losers cubs.... If the guy was an asshole he woulda been written off a long time ago... It's only his nice guy attitude that is his saving grace.

Pile of dung
career .282 hitter

2007-2009
Lee with RISP .330
RISP and 2 out .290
Calling his defense bad is laughable.

1 if his defense was anything close to what it's been over his career I wouldn't have said it- I live in the now- I can find 2 error games this year for him and even 2 error innings...

The numbers u quote are for an outstanding career and
not for 2010... If the braves get lee does he come with a delorean that goes back to the future when u go 88 mph and gets the Derek lee with all star skills? Or do they get the piece of shot baseball player he is now?

Let me know cause I'm in the dark about these things- I've heard of cash considerations or players to be named later - I think one time they traded a guy for a box of balls....

I'm pretty sure in the will farrell movie semi pro they got a washing machine for a player... But as far as I know- time machine not included....

When Atlanta fans watch lee k on 4 pitches vs a lefty he should see just fine- they can cuddle up to the back off lees baseball card and feel all warm and snuggly by what he did when he used to be somebody

He's battling back issues.
I didn't realize you were only referring to 2010.
Hyperbole rocks!
