I may be bringing a female friend to vegas and was wondering if it was worth a trip?

What other type of hiking, exercising, those kind of activities, what are some suggestions?

What about March Charlston.

I have never been there but I was actually talking to a guy from Vegas yesterday and he was telling me about Lake Mead.He described it as being like a tropical paradise such as Aruba more than just seeming like a regular lake.Of course I've never been to Aruba either so...
He also loves to fish and said there is great fishing out there. He said its a great getaway spot.

Ok, here is the scoop.'

The first time you see LAKE MEAD on your way out of BOULDER CITY you will be in awe........just an awesome view(take the left at the stoplight before you hit downtown BC).

Other than that, the lake offers very little.......crap beaches.

Here is your best bet if you go to Lake Mead...........

See HOOVER DAM(another 15 miniutes down the road) and take a raft ride down the Colorado River that winds through the canyons.....I HIHGLY RECOMMEND THIS.

Call ahead of time to book the raft ride(seats like 20).....you and your lady friend will have a blast.

Again, other then the scenery, Lake Mead offers little............ENJOY THE COLORADO RIVER though to the fullest extent.

They have a tour that's something like 2 hours. It's on an authentic, three-level, Mississippi-style paddlewheeler and runs you $24.00 per person. My friends and I are planning on going on it.

We're also going up to Mt. Charleston which is about 10 -20 degrees cooler than Vegas.

MT CHARLESTON is 5-1 over LAKE MEAD............unless you do the Colorado River excursion as I recommended.

You also have RED ROCK canyon on the west side of Vegas.......great hiking.

Tropical paradise like Aruba ? Great fishing ? This guy you talked to from Vegas must have been a heavy drinker or smoking some great stuff ! You couldn't pay me enough $$ to eat any fish caught out of this Carp infested lake. If you want some real fishing, hiking, biking and beauty, Talk to me at the Bash.

Well yea,I don't know the guy all that well so I was just listening to what he said but not taking it as the gospel.I told him that I was looking at some housing prices out there and he was telling me about the neighborhoods. We were also talking about fishing and lake Mead came up.He did tell me they had some huge carp but he talked like it was a fishermans paradise overall.I did look at some pictures of the lake earlier and I didn't see Aruba either:ohno: But maybe he has just had some great times out there and it was his "little Aruba" getaway from the city.Maybe it just has a special place in his heart,I don't know........

Lived in Bouder City for 7 months.

Other than the Colorado River excursion(which i hihly recommend to you SS), here are a some other things you could do in the area.......

1. Check out downtown Boulder City, see a 20 minute movie on Hoover Dam, walk around town for 50 minutes and enjoy the shops

2. Make sure you take that first left at the stoplight coming into town, you will see a breathtaking view of Lake Mead........very cool.

3. Boulder City is home to my favorite golf course in the entire Vegas area.......here is a link.........

On fishing, FORGET LAKE MEAD........however, you can travel another 30 minutes and find quality fishing spots from the colorado river to other various lakes.

I shouldn't say totally forget Lake Mead for fishing, but there are much better spots close by(within 30 minutes), two of the best being Willow Beach and Lake Mohave..........in fact, these are both very good fishing areas and VERY SCENIC.

LAKE MOHAVE
Fishing has been poor to fair with few reports of stripers caught, but anglers are finding fair action for bluegill and catfish on a variety of prepared baits. The average whisker fish has been between two and four pounds. Anglers are reporting some success for largemouth and smallmouth bass on a variety of lures.

Here are some of the successful anglers from Lake Mojave. From left to right: Bruce Silat with a 42-inch, 41.46 pound striper, Gavin holds up the fish he pulled in at Willow Beach.
