overs you always have a chance. it can be 0-0 in the 7th innng and you never know. a team scores 4 runs in the inning and the next team does the same. if you play under and it 4-4 in the 3rd and you have under 8 you are done with no chance. and another scenerio is an exra inning game where the last guys in the pen are coming in and i chance for the visitor to have a big inning to send it over the total.
It's not just here at the Rx but everywhere, for the reasons given in this thread, why most bets are on the over and not the under. Most of the bets made on a game are from guys who want to watch the game on TV. Betting the under, they could lose their bet anytime during the game and there goes the fun of watching the game to follow their bet. An Over bet isn't lost before the end of the game.
The books know most players play the over and they adjust the over/under line to try and get more Under bets. This is very important because it means Under players have a better chance of winning whenever the line is adjusted by the books trying to get more Under money. In NHL; If score is 0-0 and %88 of the game is played (so 6 minutes left) you can't win Over 5½ bet in a NHL game.
Same goes for NBA too. They can't score 60 points in 5 minutes.
However, in MLB when %88 of the game is played (first 8 innings)you still have a chance to cash your over since there's no clock! They can score 8-9 runs in a single inning.
