CC Sabathia......the legit ace
Burnett....sucks at 9-11, horible #2
Pettite....not sure how badly he is hurt
Hughes....need a lot from a young player
Vasquez or others to fill in....very ordinary

pretty much CC and Hughes only right now. Tough to win with a two man rotation.

Yanks are vulnerable to an early exit ( 1st round ?) , IMO. Gotta get Pettite back soon. Andy is key....need three real starters at a minimum.

I agree but Burnett can be good some times and the Yankees have so many great hitters that they can compensate for the pitching.

Burnett is only 9-11 on that team. He blows. Yanks are in some trouble, IMO.

Never would have thought I'd type these words...but with Red Sox offense getting a bit more healthy, NYY could be sitting at home in October watching TB/BOS/MIN/TEX

to have such a good record, and a good team, their pitching really does lack some.....but the fact is, they can overcome mediocre starters, with that lineup they have...not to mention, if they can get a 6-5 lead, they know its gold with Rivera in the waiting....

at a minimum, I don't like backing the Yanks to win the AL East, get the WC, make the playoffs, etc. Fading them seems correct to me, as they are usually overpriced to begin with. I only see CC and Hughes ( young) as viable starters. Burnet and Vasquez are ordinary, I like Pettite ( veteran). Middle relief is average. Mo is above average, but who fills in in innings 6-8 ?

Posada and Jeter are aging and very ordinary players. Granderson can't hit. They are weak up the middle. Lots of flaws on this team.

I don't know the current odds offhand, Steve, but Tampa at say +200 ( guess) to win the AL East sounds good to me. Yanks look real bad to me....and I follow them.

It's a decent price, but my current Unit is too Modestly Endowed to make it worth tying up funds for six weeks.

Same price +200 to win AL

A unit is a unit, doesn't matter if it is $1 or $1,000. A good bet is a good bet irregardless of amount. Time is a valid consideration though.

I hate 6 month long bets, but Tampa to win The AL East at +200 ( guess)is only like 6 weeks now.

I like it better for the AL East, since Yanks look iffy to me.

despite their pitching flaws, and age, its hard to back TB as well, if u are looking for weaknesses....despite their solid pitching (for the most part) TB bats are about as inconsistant as any team out there....there are usually NO HIT, or 1-HIT about once a week....hard to back a team like that as well, against the Yanks lineup

heh...the two no-hitters and the single one-hitter create quite the illusion for MLB's third best scoring offense, number one in BB and number six OBP

Huh?
Sox got hammered 16-2 last night and looks nothing like a playoff team.

im not disputing the talent, just the fact that it tends to "dissappear" at times......we were talking about weaknesses on teams....

STL is much the same way...they'll go 4-5 games scoring 5-6 runs a game easily, then go a few days where they cant seem to score at all.....im only saying if the "inconsistancy" strikes at the wrong time, it can be fatal

Have to disagree strongly on this one. Certainly below average among playoff teams, but once the playoff starts the pitching staff shrinks. Santana can start three times in a seven game series. Hughes is good for a third starting pitcher. A lot will depend on Pettitte's health, if he can make Burnett and Vazquez unnecessary

Overall their pitching is better than league average, which is always enough for the team that far ahead of everyone else on offense
