Is there a manager who does less with more than the great Tony LaRussa?

Like the Cubs in '09, the Cards were picked by everyone to run away with the division. After all, the Pirates, Astros, and Cubs are in there. Yet I look at the standings and they are 4.5 games out. Don't they have the genius Tony LaRussa? Don't they have the best pitching coach in Dave Duncan? Legendary Mark McGuire as a hitting coach? The best hitter in the NL in Pujols?

Bottom line, if this were the Cubs, there will be 5 threads telling how much the Cubs suck. It's time for payback. There is a nice spot to watch the playoffs along with the White Sox and Cubs fans somewhere by my house. Oh, and bring your own crying towel.

this meltdown is of epic proportion. You are right, the Cubs haters are a strange breed. Its been a bit quiet amid this awful performance and its time to bring some attention to it

I have said it before, and I'll say it again, Tony LaRussa is the most overrated manager in the game today.
Oh sure he's won, but not because of his leadership.
He's had Eck, Mac, Canseco, you all know the names he's had.

To call LaRussa a great manager, then you have to call Joe Torre a great manager.

I agree. On a few occasions when I've watched the Cardinals this year LaRussa has made moves that just leave me wondering wtf is he thinking? He comes off as very arrogant imo.

Division I thiink 8-1.

I got Texas at +250 to win their division in March, but I thought I saw Cincy listed at +800.

The only reason Loserussa and Duncan are thought of as good coaches is because they were the founders of the steroid era in baeball. I lived in the Bay Area in the early-mid 90's and when the rest of baseball started using steroids as well, the A's went from 4 division titles from '88-'92 to 6th or 7th place from '93-'95.

Kind of ironic that he and Piniella had the 2 best teams in the last 25 years not to win the title - 90 A's and Piniella's Mariner team with 116 wins.

If Dusty wasn't the manager of the Red's we would be 10 games up instead of 4.5

You got that right,he has no pitch count either and burns arms.

Game this year Votto was getting day off sent him up to pinch hit down a run and first base open ...........WTF they promptly walked him.

Larussa,I like Tony but when with the A's they never celebrated winning Tony say's just part of the triangle.

Mean while Reds and Dodgers popped bubbly each leg of the triangle.

Just kinda pissed me off mostly after they lost(an avid A's fan)that he wouldn't let them get pumped after winning division, playoffs etc.

Agree on LaRussa; Duncan is a great pitching coach though. He has resurrected countless veteran player's careers and does pretty well with young pitchers too.

Could La Russa finish his managerial career with White Sox?

Here's the latest from Tracy Ringolsby of FOX Sports on what may happen to some baseball managers in the near future:– Bob Melvin could be invited back by the Oakland Athletics.– The word is that the Red Sox had already decided in Spring Training to exercise Terry Francona's options for 2012 and 2013.– Tony La Russa could end up with the Chicago ...

See the game last night? He lets Jackson (sp) bat in the bottom of 5 with 1st and 3rd and no outs. (Ok, I can live with that), The in the sixth with man on first and 2 outs he lets Jackson bat again. Then he brings in Motte to start the 7th.....

About 2 weeks ago he brought in a SP to pinch hitm down 2 and 2 outs in the 9th.

I hate this guy like no other person in baseball.

He should be fired for stupidity after a move like that.
