Whether the factors had to do with skill, leadership, or just plain coincidence, which players seemed to have an impact on helping turn their new NFL team around after signing on as free agents?

Seems like most dont pan out. Best are usually linemen like Gary Zimmerman or Reggie White. Steve Hutchinson was a great pickup.

LB Hardy Nickerson

First big free agent Tampa Bay landed in years when they signed him away from Pittsburgh and he was one of, if not the biggest factor in helping turn the Bucs around with that dominant Defense for so many years....

Curtis Martin, NYJ

You could argue that Parcells was the main reason for the turn-around, but Martin was a huge factor as well.

drew brees

After the Chargers refused to increase their offer, Brees met with other teams. The New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins were interested. New Orleans made an offer that included $10 million in guaranteed money the first year and a $12 million option the second year. Miami was unsure if Brees' shoulder was completely healed and did not offer the money Brees was seeking. The Dolphins ended negotiations and traded for Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper instead. Brees signed a 6-year, $60 million deal with the Saints on March 14, 2006.

Randolph Moss helped turn around the Patriots offense, at least from a ground it out offense to a record setting passing attack

Oakland was very fun to watch that year. I remember a Sunday night game vs Pitt, where he had an insane about of completions in the 1st half.

Jason Campbell was not a free agent.

1995 Deion Sanders, Cowboys
The Skinny: A star in two sports, football and baseball, Deon shrugged off talk of his retirement with the signing of a huge deal with the Cowboys. Sanders went on to have five stand-out seasons with Dallas, including one that gained him an additional SuperBowl ring.
The Green: Seven Years, $25 Million
