Pedroia attempted to come back early from a fractured foot but was unable to play through the lingering soreness. The Red Sox still have aspirations of clinching the American League Wild Card this season, but they are well aware of the second baseman's long-term value to the club. He turned in a .288/.367/.493 batting line and 12 home runs over 302 at-bats this year.

Sadly for Red Sox fans, that'll do it for their season.
You can't afford to lose a middle infielder of his caliber, that is an on-base machine to boot, and hope to make up 5 games in the final month.

Tough break, if the Sox were healthy all season, the AL East would have been a three horse photo finish horse race.

yup...he came back too early. Damn shame.
Him, Youk, and Varitek (who was having a nice season backing up Martinez), can't win without them.
