At 2-5 she was beaten by 20-1 longshot Persistently in The Personal Ensign Stakes (Grade I) at Saratoga. It was Rachel Alexandra's first attempt at the classic distance of 1 & 1/4 miles.

Hard to believe. But ya, I guess Rachel Alexandra was a tad over rated.

A slightly above average stakes horse that has consistently ducked good competition over the past year and a half. Her handlers have done a good job putting her in soft races to protect her declining form. Even on her best day she would have been soundly beaten by Zenyatta.

she's not overrated in the least...she just wasn't built to go today's distance.... 1 1/8 or 1 1/16 is more her speed....that horse that beat her wasn't much coming into todays race...hence the lofty price on her

Year and a half? So she ducked the compitition in last year's KY Oaks, Preakness, Haskell and Woodward? Yeah, ok. Zen is the one who's beaten the same group of tomato cans over the last 2 years save for the BC classic, although the big boys skipped that one b/c of the plastic.

Incredible that she lost 4.5 lengths in the final eighth. This stinks because now she has an excuse to duck Zenyatta in the BC Classic.

Even though Pletcher horse was there with Borel, Rachel at 1-2 should of not collapsed like that.

1 1/4 is just to far for her. Just like 99% of other horses.

I'll just point out that if you look a the Official Chart link and note the fractions after a modest 1:12.02 first 3/4 miles, she ran the next quarter to the mile mark in 25.52 and her final quarter was 27.15. Any way you cut it, those are horrible fractions to finish the race.

all you have to do is watch the bc classic last year and the answer of who is the best is obvious...

that was by far the worst race of her amazing career..at this point i dont think we will see her at breeders cup at all...that was likely her last race...
