Dibble used to throw almost that fast, but they manage to light him up many times.....like Judgie said, its the offspeed stuff after the fastballs that gets him...he'll have to master an offspeed pitch as well....but with talent like that, he probably has/can....

he posted it, cuz the Reds announcers tonight, after announcing that Chapman will join the big league club tomorrow, stated that scouts say he threw at 105 mph in triple-A

Major leaguers can hit a 120 mph fastball if there's no movement and they can sit on it. The really interesting thing, as everyone has noted, will be seeing what he has to go along with that heat. At least I know I'll be interested in getting a look at his stuff.

think Randy Johnson. Chapman also has a great silder to go with his fastball. as a Reds fan i pray he can do what David Price did for the Rays as a rookie in the postseason - and then smoohly make the transition to starter next season.

hed have been called up sooner but he had a hell of a time adjusting to life in the US and then had some control issues. Jocketty has been teasing us for like 2 months saying hed be up "soon"

Dibble hit 100 some, maybe 101 but never 105. the only guy i ever saw hit 102+ consistently was Billy Wagner preinjury

I highly doubt anyone can hit a 120mph fastball. The reaction time on 120mph would be like .3secs. While at a 100 its about half a sec. Just making contact and putting the ball in the field of play would be quite an accomplishment. Have you ever tried hitting a 75mph pitch and then step into a box facing 90? That extra 15mph makes a world of difference.

Actually at 120 mph, a ball travels 60 ft. 6 in. in 0.34375 sec, At 100 mph it travels the same distance in 0.4125 sec, Add in the fact that the pitch probably comes from closer to 57 ft away the numbers drop to .3238, .3886 respectively... Ultra fast, and just like the 100 mph their not going to be all over it everytime, but it would be hittable by MLB's best because 1.) gotta throw it in the strike zone and 2.) The good hitters are picking up clues on the pitch from before it's released

Did this guy see any major league action yet or is that still to come?

The fastball is impressive, but his slider is ridiculous. At least it was last night. If he stays healthy, he'll be a really good one.
