So I am thinking about buying a new laptop. I have always gone with the PC but am thinking of getting a Mac. What are the pros and cons of each. Which one should I buy?

Thoughts?

If your primarily going to use it for the internet and not be creative with movies, music, etc., then a PC is sufficient and significantly less expensive. Plus if you are use to Windows, learning the Mac operating system takes time. They are quite different.

For me it has to be Mac because that's what I grew up with and it's better for Photoshop. Also on the macbook the mouse handles really well and I feel like I'm in the stone age using those stupid buttons on the PCs.

The only reason to go with PC is if you like playing games.

If just simply web browsing, PC. Customizable and cheaper. It is also a better gaming machine and its software is typically backwards compatible (if either of these things are important to you).

Macs are more secure by far, have better apps, and are far better with graphics and audio.

Think PC for utilitarianism, Mac for quality.

wait until you get a job. makes no sense to buy one now when you are unemployed. you already are spending way too much on that evo, at least with not having a job.

if you have a job and have the income, get a pc.

I just bought a mac as I have been told/read that they are better for video editing and building a website. Both things that I want to start to learn how to do. I couldnt rattle off the specs of this thing but I can tell you that it is VERY amazing. Someone said that you might need to get used to the programs on a mac. Damn right. I stumbled around this thing for about half a day. A lot of different, more cool things you can do with this machine. Someone also stated that being unemployed was not a time to buy something like this. I would disagree.....depending on where your head is at. If you pick up something like this and look at it as a tool, learn some SEO, learn some website development, learn anything.....it is worth the money you put into it. BTW....it was about 1250 dollars. That is, from what I understand, the cheapest of the newest model. Which is MUCH better than the last generation.

mac os is great for general productivity... virtual desktops (or, spaces as they call 'em), hot corners, and the best multi-touch trackpads in the world make EVERYTHING easier. add into that the great engineering that goes into their laptops: long battery life, backlit keyboard, wireless chips that don't overheat... if you have the money i'd go mac, without a doubt as you can always run both windows/mac os on a mac.

Macs are hype jobs. They're overpriced, inflexible and have an undeserved reputation for "being better at graphics and video editing." (That's not true, by the way.) A good PC can be found for much less than the cost of a Mac an can be customized in many more ways. Steve Jobs doesn't want anyone messing around with his products. His philosophy is "Here is this beautiful thing. You'll use it like I tell you to use it."

I love my iMac. Downfall of Mac laptops is the battery is built in. Could become a huge problem if you get a bad battery

You are partially right, MAC is hyped up. However when you have you have to replace your PC in 2 years due to spyware. My MAC will most likely still never of had a virus.

I bought an Imac with my tax return this year. And I will never go back to a PC. Love the way the desk top set up is better. And no Spyware is a plus, a hate that shit. Lets just keep Macs on the down low though.

Macs aren't targeted as often because there's just not nearly as many of them, but, with a user who doesn't take basic precautions, they're just as vulnerable. The best blurb I've read about Macs and viruses compared them to a small-town bank that hasn't been robbed. It doesn't mean their security is better than those in the big cities, it just mean they haven't been targeted.

At least one former-hacker-turned-security-consultant says that Macs are behind Microsoft when it comes to security.

Mac's are newer yes that's correct, and that is one of the reasons they haven't been targeted. However it's a lot harder for a hacker to write a virus for a MAC. The time that it would take would be around 30x as long as it takes for them to write a virus for PC. As far as security having a PC. It's like having to break through 5 doors to get inside. Where as MAC security you have to break through 50 doors to get inside. I personally have both a PC and MAC in my house, but when that PC breaks I probably won't but another one for a while.
