Vacation recommendations

I got 2 weeks off in October. I went to CR last year, and it was great -- the women, the beaches, the scenery, great trip. I'm definitely gonna go back, but thought I'd expand my horizons further.

Top choices so far -- Medellin or Cartagena in Columbia, Lima Peru to check out Machu Picchu, or maybe somewhere really crazy like Asia? I'll be traveling either solo or with 1 buddy, prolly pack light and keep it spontaneous once we get there.

I know all you guys have been to the hot spots. Starting from NYC, what do you think?

Just take my advice and ignore all others:

Who you going with, how old are you, what's your budget and what do you like? I will tell you to a tee where to go - love that you got 2 weeks

Sup Seymour - I'm 30. got a buddy who is ex-army who is traveling from mexico right now to rio by new years eve. I was thinking of meeting him in south america for my 2 weeks, which based on the timeline would be around columbia or peru, might even visit 2 or 3 cities in that time. OR, I could forget that, and just go off on my own somewhere. I did CR solo, and it was a blast. My budget is decent but not unlimited, a good "deal" makes things attractive. $300 to CR, $450 to Columbia, or even $1k to Asia wouldnt be prohibitive, but once I got there I'd be fine with a $10 hostel to meet other people or a cheap hotel. I like to experience the places, see the sights, eat the food, learn about some new areas, im not there to sit in my room. Warm is better than cold, I dont mind relaxing, but I dont just want to sit on a beach all week. Places with girls is a plus, but theres girls everywhere. For example, with 10 days in CR I only spent 2 days in San Jose, then went up to Arenal and down to Manuel Antonio.

Let me put it this way - if some one said hey let's go to Rio - I would say let's go to Thailand - if they said, nope, Rio - I would say, Thailand and I'll pay for you - other than the flight it's virtually free - and you could hit Laos too for nothing and some other spots - you want to go to Pattaya Beach

There are things in my life I will never forget - Fig and I were on the plane and this black arms dealer was sitting next to us on the flight to Toyko - he heard where we were going and he said to me - that when you hit Pattaya Beach the night life will jump out at you - I was thinking to myself - um, ok dork, I jump out at the night life - Fig and I were dropped off on walking street and all I can remember is what he said - the nightlife fucking jumps out at you like no place in the world - my next spot is Havana but that's minutes from me - it's Thailand and there is no other choice - everything is so cheap there too - don't even contemplate another spot

Where do you fly into and where did you stay. I remember an awesome thread about your trip but I can't find it anymore, did it get deleted?

I don't know. Searched for it and couldn't find it. The tech people here
may have yet to work on that function, as it needed repairs.

Ivy, do yourself a favor and make a trip to Thailand. The flight sucks and don't let anybody kid you that it doesn't. But, once you are there you are literally going to be dreaming up ways of staying there the rest of your life. You can stay in Viejo's large closet- he wouldn't mind...

BTW, I have been to Rio, Machu Picchu, Lima, etc. Not trying to talk sh*t about those places. You must go there too. Machu Picchu is really something that you have to do once in your life but it will be there when you get around to it. Thailand, well my biggest fear is they close the place for some reason before I move there...
