I just got back from a trip and went to turn on the old desktop and nothing is happening. It is almost like it is in "standby" mode and I have no idea how to fix it. Any suggestions on how to get it to power up or even what might have happened? It is runiing xp pro.

Should I just buy a new desktop? It is not something I use often, so just a basic one with a cd rom would work. I saw some refurbished "off lease" ones on Tigerdirect. think that is the best way to go?

Thanks

computer is about 6 years old, a gateway.

yes plugged in:(

Hmmmmm....... Have you tried unplugging it from the outlet for a couple of minutes then plugging back up and turning on?

Are you saying it turns on but screen never comes on?

Regardless, after 6 years it's probably time for a new one anyhow.

Ya, tried unplugging for a while. Basically, yes the screen never comes on. When it would hibernate, the power idicator light would go from green to like a yellow color and now it is just always yellow and does not sound like any activity is going on inside the machine. The speakers are also making a crackling sound.

I am thinking, yes time for a new one. Kind of sucks as I rarely use it, but now that I went with a netbook for traveling, I need a machine at home that can do some things my netbook cant. Also have some passwords on there, that are saved that I have no idea what they are anymore ( including 2 ex girlfriends email and also the ex wifes) I would log on once a month or so and it would always make me smile seeing all of their bullshit.
