Does boise get to the BCS if they win out?

All the talk from these media dorks, says they would lose 3-4 games if they played in the sec. so what is the main criteria for voting and rankings in college football. is boise ranked number 3 as a pat on the back throw them a bone because of last year? or are they ranked number 3 because voters feel they are that good and deserve it.

boise st might year in year out lose 3 games a year if they played in a bigger conference, but then again they would also be getting better recruits, so maybe not.

the fact is this year boise st has an excellent team, returning 21 of 22 starters from a team that was undefeated last year. they have a heisman quarterback and a great coach. they are a well coached and disciplined team that executes very well.

is florida better than boise state, what about texas or oklahoma who struggled against rice and utah state? what about the great ole miss losing to a d 2 team at home. they play in the great sec! but it was the first game of the year for those teams, so maybe they had some kinks and stuff they gotta work out. but it was also boise state st game and it was a road game vs a top 10 team, maybe boise had some kinks to work out and mistakes to fix....

just because boise state doesnt play in a big conference doesnt mean they don't deserve a spot in the big game if they go undefeated. in regards to this year it's not who they play and beat, but the fact thay have a great all around team.

if boise state played oklahoma ohio state florida alabama texas or oregon on a neutral field next week, would they be a td or less underdog in any of those games? if so then they are just as good as any of those teams, and i wonder how the bets would go at these lines...

i am not a boise state fan, but the voters in college football and the media for the most part know not a damn thing about football... some jerk off from espn said if they played mississippi st this week that they wouldn't win, lmfao maybe not but i wouldnt be so sure.... im not saying boise goes undefeated, but if they do and they are ranked number 3 and get to number 2, then they should get the bcs....

college football needs a playoff bottom line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they made a pretty good point earlier when they compared boise's schedule to alabama's schedule....boise would be a favorite over most of the teams bama faces....

on the flip side, oklahoma only beat utah st. by 7 points and they fell 3 spots in the polls....florida fell a few spots after winning their game by 20 points.....shouldn't boise be held to the same standard? if they only beat teams like wyoming or san jose st by a TD, shouldn't they fall a couple spots? you can't hang your hat on the very first game of the season come december.....

as far as the guy talking about playing miss. st. this week....he was making the point that boise has a bye week coming up followed by a cupcake and was wondering how they would fare if they had to turn around and face another solid team for a second straight week....boise has the luxury of spending a lot of time focusing on a single opponent because their schedule is so soft....if they had to face 6 or 7 solid teams in a season, no way could they spend that much time prepping for a single game like they do now

I'd take a one loss Ohio State or Alabama team over an undefeated weak ass scheduled Boise State team.

If you want to see playoffs eventually in NCAAF, root for Boise to win out. They will probably be excluded anyway and the outcry will be louder I would hope. Fuck the commitee and the Coaches Poll, BSU has no chance if things remain the same. Once Boise beat Oklahoma that should have changed the way they conduct business but it did not.

There should have been an eight team playoff system implemented back in the 90's

Eight is probably the right amount, this keeps out a #16 or a #22 team getting hot late upsetting all. The #9 team will complain of course but this would still be alot better than the status quo.

Any non BCS school going undefeated would cause uproar. I would rather see TCU go undefeated because they are in a tougher conference which contains other top 25 teams(Utah, BYU) and would make more of a case, especially since it would be 2 straight undefeated regular seasons. But imagine if both Boise and TCU went unbeaten... Then let the debating begin

ww, I'd love that scenario...whatever would work so that a playoff system of sorts comes into play. I'm sick of the endless conversation a decade later. I think it is inevitable, honestly, so let's get it going.

i just think boise is an excellent football team, and that this year they have a great team. it's not about who they play so much as how good there team is. they have a team and play an sec style offense and defense. they are versatile and can adjust to any team style. much like sec football and why i feel they are the best conference. big ten all power, big 12 and pac 10 all run n gun...

so speaking of this team and this year only, and for all the people who say they would lose 3-4 games if they played in the sec, im not saying they won't.. but just like every sec team they have 2-3 tuff games as we say... a tuff home game and 2 tuff on the road games. if boise was in the sec then im guessin it would be the same something like this for a schedule. and im just gonna use this years teams.

boise @ virgina tech
arkansas little rock @ boise
vanderbilt @ boise
boise @ ole miss
boise @ lsu (tuff game lean lsu)
florida atlantic @ boise
tennessee @ boise
miss st @ boise
boise @ georgia (tuff game lean boise)
florida @ boise (tuff game lean boise)
boise @ kentucky
south carolina @ boise

i think if they played this schedule they go 11-1

but we would never know

Boise didn't play a very disciplined game last night giving up a couple of horrible personal fouls and they don't play much defense. They got gashed by an average QB in Taylor and got two favorable calls on their last drive.
Now that they won this game they don't play a soul for the rest of the season. I say no way would I put them in a championship game.

If they win out, barring Bama and OSU winning out, Boise will be in the title game, and I say they'll win it. They have the best crunch time QB in college football.

Sure they are not as deep as an SEC or Big 12 team, but that's part of being Boise. They wouldn't win 10 straight in the SEC, but if they were in the SEC, they'd be a lot deeper. Their starting 22 is as good as any in the country.

Boise can't get anyone to play them so they go to a kickoff classic and beat a consensus top 10 team an hour from their home.

you make a great point, they allowed an average quarterback to gash there defense, well as a defense i will make the average quarterback try and beat me than allow there 2 stud rb's to beat me.. they played the run all game and shut it down, both williams and evans did squat... i dont think they combined to rush for over 50 yards..... and williams ran 20 times atleast... not even a 2 yard average...

and if you really think taylor throwing for under 200 yards is gashing you gotta be joking.... he did have some good runs and may have got 60-70 yards himself on what had to be 20 runs/scrambles...

boise played good defense and did what there gameplan was and that was dont get beat by the run... if they play arkansas boise will play the pass and you will see them give up yards on the ground.. thats football and coaching

Taylor is not an average qb, don't go based just on his passing ablility. Mobile qbs are the toughest thing to stop in the game. Taylor, for the colllege game is an upper echelon qb. He is very mobile quick and on 3rd and 7, when everything is covered he finds a way to pick up the sticks.

This is the problem with most people. They think just because they dont play in a BCS conference that all the teams in their conference are the eqivilent to a high school team and should be an easy win. Boise plays Oregon St in 2 weeks, a preseason top 25 team until losing this past week to a very good TCU team. They also finish the year against a Utah St team who almost won at Oklahoma this past week. Nevada and Fresno St are also very good teams in the conference and not easy games. Granted, they do not play the toughest schedule in the country, but to say they dont play a soul for the rest of the season? To make that statement just shows your lack of knowledge about college football...

"My lack of knowledge about college football":

I knew they played Oregon State in two weeks and I exaggerated my point about their schedule. Let's see how they play the rest of the season. To me, defense wins championships and if week in and week out they give up a lot of points to mediocre teams that would be bad for their chances.

i fully expect them to drop a place or two if they fail to win every game by 30 points, just like what happened to florida and OU

Boise State Tries to Ignore the Praise and the Doubt

By JASON CHATRAW

BOISE, Idaho — Those who are skeptical of the hype surrounding the No. 3 Boise State football team might as well get in line behind the Broncos’ coach, Chris Petersen, and his players.
Petersen cringes as the inevitable question arises about the team’s standing in the polls at his weekly news conference.
“I think if we had our druthers, we would like for people to be talking about us at the end of the year because then it’s much more meaningful than it is right now,” Petersen said this week as the Broncos (1-0) prepared to play Wyoming (1-1) on Saturday after an impressive victory over Virginia Tech, which was then ranked No. 10.
Although the Broncos were undefeated during the past two regular seasons, Petersen said he doubted that his team would escape unscathed again. His cautiousness is not because Boise State’s victory over Virginia Tech seemed devalued after the Hokies lost to James Madison in their second game, probably costing Boise State some votes in the coaches’ poll this week.
His constant tempering of expectations reflects his belief that every opponent Boise State plays will be going all out to upset the Broncos. Bearing the burden of maintaining a perfect record can be tiresome — even in the Western Athletic Conference, which Bowl Championship Series conferences regard as a notch below them.
“There are just a lot of good football teams out there with a lot of good players,” Petersen said. “Everybody’s got 85 scholarships and really good coaches. And if you start getting caught up in it” — meaning the polls — “it puts more pressure on the kids, and they’re not going to perform as well.”
Despite his 50-4 record at Boise State, Petersen has learned that the Broncos’ success is as much about his ability to maintain level heads among his players and staff as it is about X’s and O’s.
Hearing a Boise State player gripe about not getting enough respect is as rare as a Broncos loss on their signature blue turf. Instead, players echo classic coach-speak.
“We’re excited to play again,” the senior safety Jeron Johnson said. “There’s not as much excitement in the media about this game, but we’re excited to play Wyoming. They’re going to be a great challenge for us.”
“Beating Virginia Tech was just one game,” said the senior tight end Tommy Gallarda, whose one-handed touchdown catch against the Hokies may remain a TV highlight all season. “It was a big game, but just one. You watch the film and put the game to rest. Now, we’ve moved on to Wyoming.”
While college football experts and fans express strong feelings both for and against Boise State’s chances of playing in a B.C.S. championship game, the team’s story is riveting regardless of perspective. Boise State’s season opener with Virginia Tech became ESPN’s most-viewed college football game for number of households.
With growing attention and a mounting number of victories over more established programs, Boise State players might be expected to lobby for a place in the national title game. But players like Billy Winn, a junior defensive tackle, refuse to demand anything.
“We understand our place in the system,” Winn said. “We accept the position where we are, but we’re not going to listen to what people say. Of course, we hear it, but we’re just going to play our game.
“None of that stuff really matters until later on in the season. So, right now, we go day by day, working on our techniques and the fundamental side of things.”
The Boise State coaching staff views that approach as an essential part of laying the foundation for success.
“Going into fall camp each year, we always talk about the history of this program,” the junior running back D. J. Harper said. “We talk about where it came from and what we’re a part of right now and how each player on this team is leaving a mark on this program for the next guys that come in. Going over our past really brings meaning to this program.”
Harper exemplifies that focused mentality, even after perhaps the biggest regular-season victory in team history.
“I don’t pay attention to polls,” he said. “I’m just being really honest — I don’t even know where we’re ranked. I don’t think it matters. We just look at it as one game at a time, and where we end up in the end is where we end up.”
