Garlands expected ERA is about 2 times the size of his ERA. His walk total is as high as it has ever been in his career and he is constantly behind in the count or working a 3-2 count. Last start he had 10 base runners in 4 innings. There probably isn't a pitcher in the NL that has gotten more lucky than Garland this year.
I don't see a sucker bet in this game. Line looks right to me, Cain a way better pitcher but given that padres are a good team and have owned the giants this year, an inferior yet respectable pitcher in Garland is favored.
