SportsOptions just reported that both Giants Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval are doubtful for tonight's game against the Padres! They are not shown in the starting line-up.

OMT....how come they never give Cody Ross any playing time? he is a solid player IMO. they have too many outfielders than they know what to do with...

Posey took some shots behind the plate last night. Two in the grill within like 5 minutes of each other and I think one in the leg. His bell is probably still ringing from those two to the face.

Sandoval is out for sure; however the real reason is not to just rest him, which the Giants are saying, it's because he sux on the road with a road batting average of .207. I wish he was playing tonight because of my San Diego future play, which would be helped by a .207 hitter.

The Giants, as you said, have a lot of outfielders. Personally, I like seeing Guillen in right field ahead of Cody Ross. This isn't a bad thing. It has really improved the Giants depth. Sabean's pick-ups before the deadline of Lopez and Ramirez for late inning relief was excellent and with Guillen and Ross more punch. They are very deep now and can stay fresh both on the hill and in the field.

As much as the Giants now have depth in relieving and hitting, this series with the Padres still looks very tough. I expected the Giants to win last night. The next 3 games, I'm not so sure. Could be a 2-2 wash this weekend which would still leave your Padres with the lead. I'm keeping an eye on Atlanta. I think they are fading badly and the Giants can get in as the Wild Card at least. But as you said, look out for the Rockies. They turned a 5-0 game into a winner 6-5 yesterday. :ohno:

While it's true that Posey took some nasty shots to the mask yesterday, Sanchez used to exclusively be caught by Whitehead. I think the combination of last night's head bangers and Sanchez's comfort with Whitehead is the reason Posey is sitting tonight.

I agree. Plus with left hander Richard on the mound, it turns Sandoval around to bat right handed which is the weaker hitting position for him.

Bocc with some real head scratching moves tonight. lifting Sanchez for a pinch hitter in the 6th at 88 pinches after he just got a double play ball to get out of the inning before (although his command was horrible and walked the ball park) than taking the bunt off for Freddy Sanchez after getting down 0-2 with runners on 1st and 2nd no outs in a 1 run game, ended up striking out swinging anyway......and now same inning pinch hitting Cody Ross for Jose Guillen who is a dead red fastball hitter and Adams blows Ross away with 95 mph fastballs.
