</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>It's pretty remarkable that Thomas touched the ball on 22 of those plays. The Saints' game plan against the Vikings was to go extremely pass heavy at the outset, so Reggie Bush (36 snaps) was the primary back in the first half. Thomas remains a focal point of the Saints' offense and has earned 20 touches a game, no matter how many snaps he plays.

Coach Sean Payton described Thomas as a "rare player" because he can miss practices throughout the week and still play thanks in large part to his high football IQ. The Saints have yet to promote DeShawn Wynn from the practice squad, a sign that they're optimistic about Thomas' status this week.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune's Jeff Duncan made it sound like Thomas had a new injury to his knee in a Wednesday afternoon tweet, but only his ankle is hurting. The extent of Thomas' injury remains unknown. We'll have a good idea that it's a high ankle sprain if he sits out Week 5 at Arizona.

Despite coach Sean Payton's optimism, it appears that Thomas is headed toward a game-time decision at the very least this week. The matchup at Arizona is attractive enough that Thomas should still be played as a RB2 if he practices on Friday, but that's far from a certainty. Check back Friday afternoon for an update on his status.

Chris Ivory is expected to start, but Ladell Betts received more touches and played more snaps in Week 4. The Cardinals have the worst run defense in the NFC, so Ivory and Betts are both worth looks as flex plays. Ivory is the better bet for a touchdown. Thomas was at least able to practice on a "limited" basis late last week, so we're concerned he's aggravated the injury. Consider him highly questionable to return in time for Week 6.

Duncan is likely reading tea leaves -- the same ones we can read. Thomas still can't practice, and the Saints have shown that they're concerned by signing street free agent running backs and admitting Thomas still has "soreness and swelling" in his ankle. It'd be another big missed opportunity for Thomas. The Saints' Week 6 opponent, Tampa Bay, ranks 30th in run defense.

Keep in mind that the ever-optimistic Bush stated in September that he'd return in "less time than everybody thinks." He's four weeks into his 4-6 week timetable and doing nothing of note on the side of practice. Still, Bush is worth holding onto in all leagues, especially with Pierre Thomas struggling to return from his own injury.

"This is a game of inches, so if somebody else can do it better than me, they should be out there." The New Orleans Times-Picayune confirms that Bush's return target of Week 7 "would be the most optimistic timetable," though it sounds like Week 8 against Pittsburgh is possible. Bush can be rostered in fantasy leagues, but not with the expectation that he'll play in the next few weeks.

Sunday will mark his third missed game. 4-6 week ankle injuries are high ankle sprains, despite coach Sean Payton's denials that Thomas had one. "I'm a little frustrated, but hey, it's coming along," said Thomas, adding the ankle is "starting to look like a normal ankle again." It appears fantasy owners should brace for Thomas to sit out Week 7 as well.

With Thomas looking highly unlikely to play this week, Chris Ivory is in line for another 15-20 carries as a RB2 against the Browns.

La Canfora hears that "it's looking very bleak" for Bush's chances. Bush is able to run, but still can't practice. With Pierre Thomas (ankle) also likely out, Chris Ivory is setup for another start at tailback. After struggling in Week 7, he won't be a fantasy option against Pittsburgh's No. 1 run defense.

Thomas says his ankle has "gotten a lot better," and he's only following his foot and ankle specialist's orders to take pressure off. Although the swelling has gone down, Thomas is "upset" that he's not making more tangible progress. "I really don't know what's the whole problem," he said. "Everybody keeps saying it's a sprain or maybe a little tear there. I don't know for sure if that's true. I'm hearing so many different stories. I don't know what to believe." We don't expect to see him in game action before Week 11.

Reggie Bush - RB - Saints Reggie Bush (fibula) has been formally ruled out for Week 8.
Bush is apparently targeting Week 9 against Carolina for his return, but we wouldn't even be confident in that. He's in the "week to week" category. October 29 - 3:16 p.m. ET

Pierre Thomas - RB - Saints Pierre Thomas (ankle) has been formally ruled out for Week 8.
Now on crutches and in a walking boot, Thomas has moved from "week to week" status to "out indefinitely." He's almost certainly out through Week 10. October 29 - 3:14 p.m. ET

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Bush's fractured fibula has healed more slowly than expected. Although the former Trojan has been medically cleared to run, he hasn't been given clearance for practice. He was given a four-to-six week timetable to recover, but Monday marks the six-week point. Bush owners will be forced to wait close to another month for the RB3. Unless you're desperate for fantasy playoff depth in a PPR league, Bush doesn't get enough touches to warrant the roster spot.
