Any ideas how CFB could switch to a playoff format that works?

reno..great thread I think they should take top 6 teams ... play them round robin , keep it simple the ones that do not make the top six play in the bowls

if they are worried about finals cut one 1 week off the schedule to make room for the playoffs..

They could have the BCS playoff poll also ... top six, its pretty simple as for them saying that it will cost alot, bullshit they will make TONS from the tv stations and all that for playing the games

If they switched to a playoff they'd make a ton of money just look at college basket ball.

Dozens, if not hundreds of viable possibilities, ranging from four to 16 teams

The better question is when every customer wants it, why wasn't one implemented 20 years ago?

I might be in the minority on this because I know the majority want like eight teams or more,
but I would be more than happy with a four team and or plus one type of situation for CFB.
Would be much easier to pull off and I think there is usually only about four teams that really
deserve it anyways every season historically.

For starters they have to get away from the month hiatus of playing full contact football for the Championship game. The big games always seem to lack the physical attack that they have during the season as some get soft with the time off.

With so many teams that can go without a loss all season, there is a need to have total points for & against in the mix if there is need to seed teams. All teams in Div I that are perfect are in, even the Quakers - so be it. more than 16 then above rule applies

1-16, team matchups to be random-this essential as 1 playing 16 just sucks IMO.
games played throughout the country, trying to maintain neutral fields

CFB does not need a playoff

Agree a 100%.......like I said in my post there are only maybe a couple of truly great teams each year.
Every so often we might get as many as three or sometimes four truly elite squads/teams in some years.
But eight to sixteen teams...........people come on. I've always felt that college basketball should trim the
sixty-four down to either thirty-two or even sixteen. But we live in a society of kids soccer leagues that
don't keep score and people always wanting to reward mediocrity.

I'm fine with 4 teams maybe 8 tops, A national title would actually mean something though

The winners of the Pac-10, SEC, Big-12, Big-10, ACC, and Big East all meet up. 1 of the 3 winners (whoever looks worst) is out. Those 2 teams play. Winner gets a shot at the big-time.

They earn the right to take on the best in the nation after the annual elimination game between TCU and Boise is decided.

Thats great, why even have a bowl game then, just give the national title to them. Right?

There's a million ways it could get done, just wish it would happen. Sucks that some seasons you can lose one close game to a good opponent and your season is basically over. Or worse, go unbeaten and still have no chance at the title. I'd prefer to see at least 8 teams - maybe even 12 with the top 4 teams getting byes to add some incentive for the top teams late in the year. They say it would take away from the regular season but I think it would add some excitement too - games involving those "bubble" teams would be so much more entertaining.

Seriously an 8 team playoff would only take 3 weeks and be exciting as hell
