Coach Gary Kubiak indicated that Johnson was feeling much better Monday than he did Sunday night. The Texans figure to scale back A.J.'s practice reps to make sure he's 100 percent against Dallas. Look for Johnson to start.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Johnson is expected to participate in at least a limited practice on Thursday. "He felt pretty good today," said coach Gary Kubiak. Though A.J. is going to take it easy in practice all week, it's very difficult to imagine him missing Sunday's battle for the state of Texas against the Cowboys. Johnson has a sprained ankle, but the injury is minor in nature.

Johnson said his condition is "about the same" as last week, and he will take the "same approach" this week. Johnson conceded that there will be a play or two where the pain will force him to the sidelines for a breather, but he'll re-enter after having the ankle re-taped. Coach Gary Kubiak isn't ruling out a game of rest for Johnson, though you can bet the receiver will fight hard against it. We're tentatively expecting him to face off against Nnamdi Asomugha on Sunday.

A.J. missed Wednesday's practice. "I'm sure it'll be a game-time decision," said the coach. Kubiak added that Johnson is "sore," but no worse for wear than he was at this time last week. Texans-Raiders has a late (4:05ET) start, so savvy Johnson owners will have Jacoby Jones rostered as insurance.

Johnson did some running Thursday, but he's still headed toward a game-decision. The Texans are not good enough to assume a victory in a road game against a feisty Raiders squad. Johnson is preparing as if he's going to play, though he's not a no-brainer fantasy option against Nnamdi Asomugha this week.

"I'm just trying to do everything I can to be on the field," Johnson said. "I'll get over to the stadium early. I'm preparing to play." If Johnson finds the field, he'll square off against Nnamdi Asomugha, who he has five catches in three games against. Regardless of what Johnson says, it should be a true game-time decision, and owners don't have to wait for him at 4PM if they have solid options going before.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>According to Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen County Record, A.J. will practice Thursday and has a "good chance" to play Sunday against the Giants. DiTrani covers the G-Men -- not the Texans -- so it's unclear where he's getting his information. We'll have an update from a Houston reporter later today.

"Andre took what we expected him to take today," said Kubiak. Johnson was held out all last week, so his return to the field is a positive sign for his chances of suiting up on Sunday. Kubiak called Johnson's practice work "very encouraging," and the head coach has been noticeably more optimistic this time around.

Johnson, officially listed as questionable for the game, was a limited participant in Friday's practice. Writes the Chronicle's Dale Robertson, "although he is also a game-day decision, it appears he will be ready to play." Pencil in Johnson against the Giants as a WR1. The game has a 1PM start Sunday, so we'll known A.J.'s availability around noon eastern time.
