I love it when gamblers lose a game and then say "Even though I lost the bet I was on the right side"!!

Well you can look at it like playing poker. You never want to play results poker.Make the best play and know it was the correct play regardless of the outcome if it was indeed the correct play.Sports betting is a little different but as a capper you have to be confident of your abilities too.So I can see where people use this.Garbage TD's ,a nd on 1st and goal with 1.50 mins left, missed extra point etc..etc...Obvious things that happen that effect the final result. The result is the result and I sometimes giggle a bit when I see this too but its all about not doubting your next game and cap it like you should every time by trusting your abilities. The term doe's get over used in both poker and sports betting IMO though, taking away some of the shine.

I'm always on the right side; I'm just hoping to get unlucky less than about 45% of the time.

I am guilty of this. I think it's a way to falsely console yourself after losing a bet.

Kind of like playing blackjack and saying "But I followed the strategy right" when you lose a hand.

If someone wins 55% of the time I will never say any of their bets were on the wrong side. Likewise if someone wins less than 52% of the time, the only correct side is to not bet

pretty good point....i don't know how many times this year i've felt like that during baseball.....easy unders through 7 that turn into score fests in the 8th....errors in the 9th that blow the RL....used to it seemed like if you were winning your bet after 8 innings you were good, but it seems like so many runs are scored in the 9th these days that it's ridiculous....even a lot of games that i've won i've had to sweat out as the closer comes in and promptly walks the bases loaded and i'm praying no more than 3 runs cross the plate....

but i try not to complain

All my baseball bets would win .............if the allowed my team to keep trying ...........stupid 9 inning rule is the only reason I lose .........

I think there needs to be two terms, right/wrong side and smart/stupid side. The wrong side isn't always the stupid side and vise versa. Lets say for instance that you took....oh, the 49ers to win SU against the Saints. (just making this situation up) The 49ers own the game on offense, defense, time of possession. They out gain them in yardage and do everything right EXCEPT, lets say they turn the ball over a few times deep in NO terrortory. And lets throw in a few costly mental mistakes that led to penelties. You could have been on the smart side (SF) and have lost the ML play or you could have been on the Saints (stupid side) and still won a ML bet for them. But, in the end you're happy because you took the points too and won regardless. This was all hypothetical of course.

It's all about consolation and keeping yourself sane as a bettor. A few days ago I bet 3 games in baseball, went 0-3, lost all 3 in the 9th inning on closer blown saves, one of which was Rivera, if I didn't think I just got unlucky I'd never wanna bet again, who knows maybe I was legitimately on the wrong side but you have to figure with 3 leads going into the bottom of the 9th you should walk away with at least 1 or 2 wins if not all 3 so i'd like to think it was more a case of serious bad luck than poor capping.

I like the poker analogy. If you get all your money in as a 2/1 favorite and get outdrawn, do you regret the play? No.

Just like if you take a side and some weird, crazy shit turns what looks like it shoulda been a winner into a loser, I still don't regret that. It just seems like it happens more often than the miracle wins, that's for sure!

i was on the wrong side, once. i think. definitely maybe.
That strategy card for blackjack turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to the casino business, justification for losing.
