Yes, there is money to be made in online poker if you know what you are doing.
I play Omaha Hi Lo a lot, last night I was sitting next to a bully that had to bet pot every hand preflop, then again post flop.
I had to muck fifteen hands in a row until I had something to play him with.
Finally, after 20 minutes of mucking mediocre crap, the cards came my way, after three great starting hands, I busted him out in 10 minutes.

If you are getting rakeback from a site like RakebackGlobal.com and taking advantage of your strengths as a poker player while keep yourself grounded it can be very profitable. It also helps to be very disiplined and have at least a few different sites to play at.It can become very mundane at times so it is good to have other activities and hobbies outside of OL poker.Take breaks when you are not feeling it.If your mind is on something else then wait until it is clear and focused on playing before you decide to play.

it is possible to make money playing poker online, but you MUST know
exactly where you fit on the poker food chain. if you tend to overestimate
your abilities or underestimate your oppositions; you probably won't like
your results until you can accurately define this. this basically means that
game selection and the ability to leave a table quickly if you see the game
is tougher than expected or/if the game has changed due to stronger
players replacing weaker players is important. realize that online you will
not only have to better than your opposition, but you will have to overcome
cheating, collusion, robot players, and automated software programs that
analyze your play. online poker was much easier a decade ago not only
because of the previous obesevations, but the square to sharp ratio
was much higher back then. in addition the average weaker player
today is much better than the average weaker player of the past.

Your question reads.....is playing poker online profitable. The answer is that for over 96% of the players the answer is NO. In the short term anything can happen. Yes there are some people who win a good bit of money......a family here won 100+ million 2 weeks ago in the lottery....does that make the lottery profitable??? it does to them.
There is a high stakes tourny player i kinda keep track of and you'll see him win 4 figures sometimes 3 or 4 times a week.....but he invests over 4 figures every single day he plays ....so unless he has a Top 3 finish once a month or so at least he barely stays ahead of the game.

Pokertableratings.com keeps track of cash game players and from studying the results i can tell you that most consistent winners play either heads up games (2 players) or the 6 max games.....Both can show big profits but also have some big swings also....

Straight Omaha is also very profitable IF as said earlier by the King .....you can find players worse than urself to play against.....

agree with this guy pretty much. also, attempt to play in tournaments where money is added on the smaller sites. for example, bodog poker v is starting sunday with money events adding money to the prize pool. you usually get worse players on these sites who are using sports betting money/winnings and arent true poker players.

I have success playing cards because I don't have to win. I would never consider doing it for a living.

Yes- things i have found helpful.

Dont play drunk
Dont be surfing the net while playing
If you feel you are at a table and there are a few better players then you jump out and find another table
Play Friday and Saturday nights- i have made the most money playing against drunks
Have to realize you wont win every night- if you feel you are going on tilt get the F@#k out!
But yes with the right mindset and time there is alot of money out there online

people make a lot of money against me .. all you need to do is get it in way behind.. 95 % of the time you'll end up with the best hand. especially when you have less than 6 outs.

i wish i had the %'s of every hand i have played for what has happened. my bad beat % has to be among the greatest of all time.

It was a lot easier to make money online before Neteller/Fireplay and PartyPoker shut down for US players.

I find that there are a lot less donkeys at the tables nowadays.

If you should win two monster pots in a row, or like 3 nice pots in 5 hands or something, and show a nice profit for that session, push that 'leave table' button, like post haste.
You ain't going to win 5 monsters in a row, and the more you linger, the more you'll give it back.

You got a problem with gettng up with like a 30 percent profit, logging out for an hour or so, and starting a new session with some donk money you just fleeced?
I don't.

Most people can't beat rake. If you have a strategy to defeat that or you play high enough where rake is minimal then you have a shot.

If you play against me it's profitable.

Good thing is I played for about 6 months and quit.

I can win at sports. I can win at blackjack. I can win at craps (I can't do the dice thing but know people who can). I'm too inpatient to win at poker so I don't play.

It was for me about 5 years ago. Was pulling down between $450-$600 per week, it was my main source of income as a senior in HS. I was logging stupid hours though.
