Don Nelson will not return as head coach of the Golden State Warriors, according to multiple reports.
The Contra Costa Times and csnbayarea.com report that Nelson will announce his resignation during the team's media day on Monday.
ESPN and the Contra Costa Times report that assistant coach Keith Smart will replace Nelson. Smart is famous for his game-winning shot as time expired to lift Indiana over Syracuse in the 1987 NCAA championship game.
Nelson, a three-time coach of the year, coached the Warriors from 1988-2005 and also led the Bucks, Knicks and Mavericks. He returned to Golden State in 2006, leading the 2006-07 Warriors to a first-round upset of the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the NBA playoffs.
The coaching move is another changing of the guard for the Warriors. Longtime owner Chris Cohan sold the franchise Joe Lacob and Peter Guber in July.

Kind of sucks. The GS games were entertaining to watch late night. I wish more teams played that style.

At least the Warriors were exciting while losing when he was there.

GS games with him were very exciting to watch -- it was like F*ck defense, let's just try to outscore the other team.

I like coaches with that style. Warriors will probably do worse this season
