It would have cost a lot less to just carry his shoulder pads.
Instead, it is being reported that Dallas Cowboys wide reciever Dez Bryant took his offensive teammates out to dinner on Monday night to make up for his training camp faux pas.
The price of the dinner?
$54,896, according to USAToday.com.
The dinner took place at Papas Brothers Steakhouse in Dallas, one of the most expensive restaurants in the city.
Williams took it upon himself to extend an invitation to his defensive teammates as well, just to make sure Bryant got the message.
So, let's say 50 people attended the dinner in a festive mood after the Cowboys win over Houston on Sunday....that's nearly $1,100 per person.
A steep price to pay for a lesson learned.
After the first practice of training camp, while Bryant was conducting an interview, Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams took off his shoulder pads and placed them at Bryant's feet to carry into the locker room.
Bryant refused, saying "I'm not doing it. I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads."
But, to his credit, Bryant is not playing like a rookie so far, playing a big part already in the Cowboys offense with 14 catches and 158 yards in his first three games while playing with a fractured rib.
