The OP must not be a fan of San Diego sports teams because we're used to the Padres and Chargers choking and never winning anything.

We take it in stride after a choke job and head down to the beach and smoke a fatty, lol.

most of their wins this year has been luck..............a flare here and there that was how they scored most of their runs...pathetic!

Sure, a flare here and there is what had them leading the NL West for most of the year. It had nothing to do with their pitching whatsoever. :ohno:

all the experts picked them to finish dead last, they overachieved by a longshot, obviously, the double-digit losing streak hurt them, but it should also be known that they took the air out of the Colorado Rockies by winning the series at Coors Field where the Rockies came in on a massive streak

No way, no how did SD choke this year.
All polls showed they were power ranked 29th out of 30 teams on March 30.

I watched the game (what a treat Enberg is to listen to, too bad I don't always get the SD feed) Gorzellany matched Garand pitch for pitch is all.
Nobody choked anything.

WRONG.

SD spit the bit. How one can call a ten game losing streak in September with a 6 1/2 game lead and the division on the line anything other than a major league joke job is beyond me but then I've seen some of the fantastical comments you've made in the politics forum so I know you're no stranger to delusion.

But yeah, the Pad's bullpen is sick.

I hear what you are saying, the Pads had a 6.5 game lead in the final month and blew that, I get it.

But here's my point, which you may have missed, and if you did it's all good, let's say you have a Stakes Horse Race.

Let's call the favorite Speedy Petey, let's call the long shot that nobody gave a chance to win at 48-1 odds Jelly Belly.

It's a 10 furlong race, for the first 8 furlongs Jelly Belly owned a 6 length lead, nobody gave Jelly Belly a chance in hell, but alas, the long shot started to fade in the back stretch to get nipped at the end by favorite.

Did Jelly Belly 'choke', or did the horse that didn't belong there in the first place put on a game effort?

That's my point.

p.s. the poli forum is a farce, like the Rubber Room, my posts there tend to be on the inane side, well, because it's an inane forum.

Good luck with SF in the playoffs, you just might have enough pitching to do damage.

Thanks for the well wishes. That is, nevertheless, perhaps the worst analogy you could've used. The scenario you describe is commonplace in horse racing. And, not only does it happen everyday, but it is expected to happen everyday, usually a few times everyday, at every track. I do love Jelly Bellies, though. Especially Juicy Pear and Tangerine. Yum!

the reality is...SD isn't playing much different than how they have been the whole year...sure they are pressing and making mental errors because of it....but they really haven't 'choked'.

the lack of offense finally caught up to them. you just can't put that kind of pressure on your starting staff knowing that every day they take the hill 1-2 runs could beat them...that shit will wear on you. Also the law of average has balanced out finally....right before the all star break this team was getting every imaginable break, bounce, and call..and now they can't buy a break.

Tejada and Ludwick provided a slight spark for a couple weeks but nothing dramatic that they desperately needed. you just can't expect to win in the long run when every night 2 runs can beat you.

The term choke gets thrown around way too much by people who don't know what they're talking about.
Like other posters have said, SD overachieved for most of the year. They have young starting pitching for the most part, which of course, wears down toward the end of the season. That in turn, magnified thier lack of offense over the past month or so.

Considering opening day payrolls...

I think the Padres did OK this season, for the cheap fucks they are.

Padres fans definitely had a more exciting season then, I don't know, let's say Mets fans, and it was around 100 Million Dollars cheaper, lol.

Yet, this is exactly what the Giants did all the way to a fantastic season. It is, in fact, exactly what the team was built around. And it worked!

Presumably you're the expert to whom the rest of us should defer?:pointer:

The Padres didn't choke.
The Giants are/were a better team.

What part of that would you disagree with?
