Bought a fridge from Sears, getting delivered and was charged 69.99 for delivery. I don't know if the delivery guys are paid by the hour or get the whole 70 buck or not. What is a decent tip for them?(presuming 2 guys)
Would like tip responses and if anyone does this kind of delivery work they are more than welcome to chime in.

I offer them a cold pop. No tip necessary there and that's coming from a generous guy that tips with the best of em.

On the flp side, I ordered a new mattress and box springs and rails and the guy put the whole thing together for me and moved old bed to a guest room. I gave that guy $100!

I'll give a guy a buck or two for washing my windshield at the gas station, 3 bucks for pizza, all restaurants.

I don't tip the guys standing on the freeway exits though. One guy has been in my town for 2 years with a gascan claming he's outta gas. He's gonna be out of teeth if he doesn't leave soon. I fuckin' hate scammers.

Another one I question is the broads that make my smoothie or my wifes mocha at a drivethrough. It seems that they expect tips but what's the difference between them and the hamburglar who serves me my 1% beef patty through the sliding window?

Pretty soon customer service agents at banks are going to be asking for tips via paypal. Where does it end?

Great post!

I waited tables in college, so even if the service is bad, I give 15%, always have always will. If it is great, give 25-30%, but I agree, everybody has their hand out now. Next thing you know, I am going to have to tip at Taco bell. Thanks for the taco, wait here is a $2 for you.

I'll tip if the f'ers can remember to put the hot sauce in my bag! I get home an no hot sauce (after I asked for it) and my meal is ruined. Taco bell is no different than bending over and eating out of my dogs food dish without that yummy hot sauce!

I'll tip any cop that pulls me over and doesn't ticket me too!

I think tips should be strictly for a legitimate sit down restaurant/diner/bar and for the guys that dry off your car and deliver your pizzas.

I hate walking into my local sandwich shop or juice bar and seeing a little decorated box labeled "tips". I feel like they are more or less begging for extra money when just me patronizing them should be more than enough gratuity.

I generally tip 15%-20% when I go out to eat. Of course if I get shitty service I will leave no tip at all. Back in the day I would dine and dash if I receive poor service and lousy food. Can't do that shit in 2010 because it is considered felony burglary in California now.

I tip the guy who dries off my car $2.00. I will give him $3.00 if he makes me feel sleepy and relaxed while watching him work on my car.

I rarely order pizza delivery anymore. But when I last ordered delivery from Round Table Pizza in March I think I tipped $2.00

I have a policy to never give money to the homeless. My philosophy is unless you are handicapped every American is just a shower and drug test away from gaining employment. If you are handicap and begging for money then you are doing something wrong and not getting the disability or Social Security that is owed to you.

To answer the original posters question on appliance delivery... If you paid extra for white glove service which is where the install your new appliance and remove the old one then don't tip. If you got the standard back of truck delivery where the driver is only required to take it out of their truck and leave it in your garage or at the front door then don't tip him. If the driver is cool and decides to go the extra mile and bring your appliance in the house, unbox it and or install it then tip him a $5 or $10 spot and offer him a cold drink. Most of the time the driver will do that for females or the elderly without hesitation but if you are dude they want to see you sweat moving and installing your own shit.

When I moved into my house last year I found a guy on craigslist to wall mount my TV and install and mount my surround system. The guy was very cool, he waited around for UPS to drop off my surround system that I ordered from Amazon. Then during installation I didn't have enough speaker wire and he was cool enough to chill at my house while I drove down the street to Fry's Electronics to pick up another spool of speaker wire. He even took it upon himself to calibrate my TV when I left to Fry's. I gave him unlimited beer and tipped him $20.

the fridge might only last a few days before it breaks and you need to get sears to send out another one. I don't tip those guys.

you guys are tighter than two coats of paint.......

of course you tip the guys and no "a cold pop" is not generous lol.....

these guys will be lugging a fridge in your house so I think they deserve something and what they get should be based on how cool they are and if they damage anything ect ect

I offer them a drink before they get started shoot the shit for a minute and let them do their work.

they make an hourly wage and dont keep the delivery charge so I usually give at least a 20 to split

It's their effin job. I will not feel or guilt or compelled to tip somebody for doing a job they were hired to do just because I paid somebody to do it for me. When was the last time you did shit for your mailman? That poor dude delivers shit to your house everyday and guess what you don't pay a cent for mail delivery. A mailman understands that his job is redundant and nobody really needs him to stop by your house six days of the week. Most of us could live with mail delivery once a week to cut down on government costs. The mailman's reward is that we pretend we need him everyday and enable him to feed his family with his 50-60 hour work week.

Their hourly wage is much higher than that of a waitress because tips are expected in the restaurant industry. Delivery of a fridge is a guy doing his job. A big "thank you" is it for me.

Exactly, Seinfeld did a whole episode on this.
Offer him a cold drink.

A newsboy who does his job well gets a tip, a waitress gets a tip, a bartender gets a tip.

No way, no how, do two guys on a 1-800-Mattress truck (doing what they are supposed to do) dropping off a mattress get a tip, especially when a delivery charge is involved.

The waitress will always get a tip up to the day the bill says 'food delivery charge' is on the bottom, then she won't get a tip.

you'll tip someone who cracks open a beer for you but you won't tip a guy who's hauling furniture in your house???

do you tip a pizza delivery guy even though there is a "food delivery charge"

The guy standing behind the bar who cracks my beer doesn't charge me, nor his establishement. a beer delivery fee.

If the pizzaria charges a delivery fee, and the delivery guy gets a percentage, or the whole fee, then no way, no how does he get a tip.

Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ap

Tipping the fridge guy? How about the guy who delivers your furniture? No, I don't tip them, that's their job. A mailman getting stuff around the holiday season isn't really considered a tip imo, just gifts.

I tip the pizza guy, barber, things like that.

I have a friend who by rule refuses to tip a male waiter. He says look around at all of these hot bitches taking food and beverage orders and they send me some skinny dude who is 6 foot 3 inches to wait on me? He says that is good enough reason alone to not tip.

He does have a point part of the dining out pleasure is having a hot chick wait and flirt with you. I like getting my check with a little heart or smiley face on it.

Reminds of the time I bought a fridge from Bestbuy about 5 years ago and it actually got delivered on New Years day. Guys showed up at like noon and I was up cleaning from the night before ( i was cleaning candle wax off of ceiling after my friend threw a m80 in a candle that had been burning all day) My house was a wreck. Gave the guys a few beers and they hung out for about 2 hours or so and actually helped me do some shit. They had one delivery left for the day and one of the guys came back later for another party I was having that night. Guy ended out smashing out some chick in my guest room. I guess that was a decent tip.
