Just got back from Vegas...signs were everywhere saying they had remodeled. The outside of the casino appeared different and it was evident there was a ton of construction going on. I didn't get a chance to walk in the casino, but in the past it has not been impressive at all. The pictures of the new rooms looked fairly simple, but clean - also had a 42" TV which they really pushed on advertising. I have heard nothing but good things about the pool, but have never actually seen it - just lots of pictures. If you have a good enough offer I would consider staying, if it is not up to your standards you can always move across the street to the MGM or MB.

putting a 42" TV in the room isn't a remodel.

I wouldn't chance staying at this old dump if room quality is important to you. Kind of late in the year for the pool, too !

I'd expect Trop to be the El Cortez South.

Thought you were going to the red rock charlie. Hooters is next store to the Trop. Was the former San Remo. I used to go to the Trop years ago and always enjoyed it there. Things have changed big time since I was there last. New ownership might change things around. They've always had a nice pool.

The Tropicana has gotten good reviews for their remodel. I've not stayed in one of the new rooms, but apparently the difference is noticeable.

Doug, the Excalibur is one of the two or three places on the Strip I put at the bottom of the list. The only time I ever recommend it to anyone is if they insist on taking kids to Las Vegas. It's really not a good hotel.

I've stayed at Excalibur, it's OK and very cheap only about 20 years old. Much nicer than IP. Give them a try if the reviews are good.

Are all rooms redone ?
