This explains Favre's downgrade from a full participant in Thursday's practice to a "limited" practice on Friday. The injury will not threaten Favre's playing status, but potentially could affect his performance. Of course, the addition of Randy Moss might do more to improve Favre's production than any minor injury. The elbow is something to keep an eye on, but won't affect his fantasy ranking until it clearly becomes a problem on the field.

Brett Favre - QB - Vikings Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated Tuesday that he has no plans to meet with Brett Favre to discuss the racy voicemails, text messages, and photos allegedly sent to Jets employee Jenn Sterger in 2008.
Why would he? Despite the media's fervent attempts to turn this into a major scandal, Sterger never wanted Deadspin to publish the initial story, didn't provide the website with information, and isn't alleging sexual harassment. The NFL is looking into the matter, but it's hard to believe Favre will face serious discipline unless Sterger changes her stance. October 12 - 6:50 p.m. ET

Brett Favre - QB - Vikings Brett Favre (elbow, ankle) performed hand-off drills Wednesday, but was held out of the team portion of practice.
It was a brief practice and the Vikings are on a short week, so it's not surprising that Favre was held out while dealing with elbow tendinitis. Coach Brad Childress plans to limit Favre throughout the week. He knows the offense better than his own coach, so it isn't like Favre needs the reps. October 13 - 4:35 p.m. ET

This is more like it. Vikings coach Brad Childress went to great lengths to make it sound like Favre's injury seriously could keep him out of Week 6, probably in an attempt to throw off the Cowboys. Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune does relay some concern about whether Favre will be able to finish the game. Favre is the ultimate iron man, so we certainly wouldn't bet against him playing every snap and playing effectively.

The elbow was inflamed when Favre was struggling a few weeks back, but he looks to be quite a bit healthier for Week 7. Favre's improvement is timely, as a date with his former team is on tap Sunday night. Expect the Vikings to open up the playbook at Green Bay after limiting Favre to 19 pass attempts in Week 6. Favre has a 4:1 TD-to-INT ratio in his last two games.

"I'm willing to give it a try," said the banged up 41-year-old. "I want to play, and I want to help this team win. I'm more committed today than I was before the injury. I've done it in the past, and I can do it again." Favre sat out Wednesday's practice and may sit Thursday as well, but at this point we'd bet heavily on him starting Sunday's 4:15ET game in Foxboro.

Bevell has known Favre a long time, so it's what we would expect him to say. He's been in meetings with Brad Childress all week. If the head coach was planning to take a stand and sit Favre, Bevell would certainly be privy to the information. Favre left Thursday's pre-practice walkthrough without the walking boot on his left ankle, and he's being fitted for a Size-15 shoe (one size bigger than normal). He won't practice Thursday, but he still hopes to put in some work on Friday.

Though Tarvaris Jackson took first-team reps, ESPN's Ed Werder predicts that Favre will start at New England, citing "the expectation of everyone" in the Vikings' organization. Werder noted that Favre got around "with a noticeable limp" in his high-top cleats, but looks poised to lead Minnesota onto the field against the Patriots. Randy Moss and Percy Harvin appear safe to use in fantasy leagues. Favre, though, is just our No. 16 quarterback for the week.

Childress doesn't think Favre will need an MRI, though he based that assumption on a talk with the trainer and hadn't discussed the possibility with Favre himself. Favre has said that he plans to contact Dr. James Andrews about the pain in his shoulder and is worried his rotator cuff could be damaged. Childress doesn't seem as concerned about the injury as Favre, but we would caution against writing Favre's name down in ink for Week 11 just yet.

It's fair to wonder whether Brad Childress' dismissal will "light a fire" under Favre, although at this point it's hard to imagine him suddenly turning his season around. The banged-up 41-year-old holds a 10:17 touchdown-to-interception ratio with five lost fumbles, easily leading the NFL in turnovers. The Redskins present a favorable matchup in Week 12, but you'd be taking quite the leap of faith by using Favre in a fantasy league. www.therx.ws

Favre also told reporters that he doesn't anticipate any schematic changes on offense following the Vikings' head coaching change. We'd be hard pressed to recommend Favre as a Week 12 fantasy starter, but Washington hasn't played the pass well this season.

We'll have a better idea after Friday's practice, but this is headed toward a game-time call.

According to Werder, Favre has a golf ball-sized knot between his neck and collarbone, and has experienced numbness in his throwing hand all week. Look for Tarvaris Jackson to finish out the season as the Vikings' starting quarterback. Having realized his greatest fears about breaking down physically, Favre's playing days are all but over.
