Would you say it's possible to grind out $150 a day playing poker in Vegas?

I'd say with disapline, and the tourist.....it'd have to be easy. Especailly on weekends when the weekend warriors come in town to drink and party.

with the right stack with the right limits...a good poker player could do it...but a gambler couldnt.

No need to go to Vegas. I am averiging a little less than that in the D. I have 3 casinos and many many "charity" poker rooms.

Need to get playing more than I have. (childcare issues)

Illini tried it and failed, I'm not sure what level his poker game is at ? Better than mine for certain.

I think easier said then done.

We are talking $15/ hour for 10 hours EVERY day !

What limits would you do this at ? Above 5-10 and you might face some pretty good players.

What bankroll would be needed at various games ? Can you afford to toke grinding it out ?

I never look at it like per hour. To me it is all one big session. I don't put time limits on playing. I don't put money limits while playing. I think thats just a silly way to look at it.

I play 1/2 and yes I tip when I win a hand. 150 is possible on just 1 hand. I have been trying different things like not slow playing anything. Slow playing at 1-2 is just not worth it. There are enough players that will call you. No need to bluff unless you are pretty sure you can get then to lay down. No need to try to be the table bigshot. They always look like they win but in the end they don't. 1-2 is no place to get tricky. Just play and fold often. Don't limp. LOL @ people they limp than call a raise of 15 in early position. You didn't have a good hand to raise yet you feel you have a hand to call 13 more and be out of posion. Loser everytime.

I'd think you'd really want to take advantage of the tourist factor, and play games like 1/2NL where you can feel more comfortable playing ABC poker (which might be a good speed to play at if you're going to sit for 8+ hrs at a time).

last trip in vegas i strolled into the mgm poker room at 9:30 am friday morning. bought $ 200 worth of chips and sat down at the 1/2 NL Holdem table.

3 hours later i had $ 780 . easiest money i have ever made. i had drunks, tourists and horrible players all around me. i sat back and waited . those people werent there to fold . i was and could be patient. picked off pot after pot.

very possible to grind out a profit against those types of players.

I am not very good but I used to have a job that was mind-numbingly boring so I played poker all day. My goal was exactly half of yours; $75 per day. I can't speak for being at a table but playing online it is simple. You can play ultra-ultra tight-aggressive and with the constant table turnover, nobody is around long enough to catch on.

I used to play nothing but AA, KK, and AKs (maybe a JJ from dealer or some shit). It was boring as hell but I didn't care because I was doing something else anyway.

Like another poster said - for a poker player it would easy. For a gambler, you would crash and burn. You would need to be ultra-disciplined...one bad run/tilt could wipe out a weeks worth of profits or jumping up to higher games when you are not ready would probably be your worst enemy.

It went well. I often met my goal and, on the days I didn't, I just ran out of time or had other shit to do. It was incredibly fucking boring, though. I checked my stats and (after about 4,000 hands over two months), I saw like 8% of the flops.

I played .50/$1 so it wasn't like I was risking a lot but I figured that was the highest room that had a lot of turnover. I had played 1/2 and 2/4 before and those rooms don't have the turnover so they would quickly figure out what the hell I was up to and I'd get crushed.

The first prerequisite is to get a boring job. I was managing a bar & grill so I spent the first five hours a day watching CNN, praying staff showed up, and signing checks. :)

The problem is that most people playing poker in vegas are trying to do the same thing, in my experience.

Depends on where you are playing. You need to find a tourist place 1st and foremost ... like what was said above somebody that was looking to see every flop and had an "entertainment" budget .... ok, so what if I blow $100 - I came with $500 and I had a TON OF FUN !!!! I rarely play poker (cept video poker), and for the most part I SUCK at it. I won more at the Luxor than anywhere else anytime ... big part of it is before you sit watch the tables .... if you don't see the fish don't sit.

I would think the larger the hotel the greater the fish there, but I've never tracked it.

It's never as easy as it seems. What happens when you don't have cards falling all over you? Do you keep playing to hit your goal, or do you take your loss and try to make it back the next day. You could try and play at the places over the weekends like Circus-Circus which would improve your odds, but even a drunk can get cards that can't be beat. Tough way to make a living. I've been there and done that, except it was in Gardena, Ca playing draw poker.
