Dude is a renowned surgeon and doesn't come cheap. After all of the surgeries and consultations he is performed on the elite he has to have banked billions over the course of his career.

There is no f-ing way. yes he is a famous dr. and surely makes a ton of money, but come on the average surgeon makes about $300k a year. if he makes 10 times that much he has nowhere near enough money to buy a team. The average NFL team is valued at $1.02 billion. Even the crappiest lowest valued NBA team is still worth $254 million. Even the upfront downpayment money would have to be in the $50 million range.

I'm sure with his "Star Power" he could gather a few Big Money people and start a syndicate to Buy a Team.

Him alone ? No

it seems like he is the only surgeon the NFL uses. It's strange. Is he really that much better than everybody else?

Short answer, Yes, he is. I know some of the doctor's on his team...a lot of them live fairly close to me. Dr. Andrews is getting up there in age and doesn't do much surgery at all anymore - he does however oversee a team of orthopedic surgeons which includes his son. My great uncle is good friends with Dr. Andrews...sat next to one of his surgeons at the BCS title game last year...had some interesting conversations for sure.
