What to do with Ebay feedback in this case...?

Ordered a video game on Ebay. Realized I had the wrong address and hit stop on my browser but it went through. Picked the person to order from (about 7 comparable prices) because they were close to me in location. Within a minute of confirming the wrong address, I sent a message to the Ebay account of the seller telling them the correct address.

Here is where it gets tricky.

I get a message back more than 24 hours later saying that the folks in charge of sending it have already received the A-ok for the original address. I also learn that the item is not being shipped from the close location listed, but that the seller has numerous locations throughout the US (not listed anywhere in the ad).

If the person ships it to the wrong address where I am unable to receive mail (last time I sent it there the new renters kept the item (a $140 IPod that was marked received at the address by the tracking info), don't want to risk it again), should I leave negative feedback? Or is it my own fault for failing to update my address at the confirmation screen?

Just wondering what folks think. I have flawless Ebay feedback myself (up to about 80 good transactions of buying and selling) but I figured telling them I made a mistake a minute after purchasing was enough of a window to correct it.

What would you do?

Also, the seller has great feedback. About 1000 mostly happy people.

Secondly, there is a thread about buying Ebay pants somewhere on the RX that I'm sure someone will bump up. Good read if you can find. Bought pants that had the correct tag but were about the size of my calf. Bump it if you must.

Yes, Jake is wrong. But never heard of a turn around that quick.

I would think if he noticed it right away, and made contact with the seller. they would make the fix for the shipping address.

As someone else asked, is your Paypal address fixed ? because they really should be using that address as a Confirm address....not your Ebay one.

I dont want to pile on you Jake but its your fault that you didnt update your address but I would email the seller and Ebay about this again. You might be screwed here but go to Ebay's buyers and sellers guide and read it.

I wouldn't submit negative feedback if your at fault. However if you contact the seller I'd assume they'll work with you to make sure you get your game. To a lot of people Ebay is a source of income, they don't want to ruin that over a $50 video game.

A seller who won't or can't change an address within a few minutes of taking the order shouldn't get positive feedback, IMO. Even though Jake made a mistake the seller should be flexible even after the sale is made.

I don't know if negative feedback is necessary but I certainly wouldn't give positive feedback.

That's what I did. Emailed within 60 seconds of accidentally sending payment with the wrong shipping address. Heard back 24 hours later saying it can't be done.

Jake,Why not go to the local post office and tell the Supervisor your situation and see if the postal worker who delivers that route can catch that package for you I know its a longshot but you have nothing to use except your purchase.

The seller is under no obligation to offer any sort of refund or a discount for repurchasing the same item. Unfortunately this is 100% your own fault. One you shoot the gun you can't put the bullet back int he barrel. All these power sellers on ebay have things pretty much automated. They sell thousands of items a month rushing to get peoples items delivered to them w/in a week (most of the time).

If someone accidentally buys the wrong item by mistake, that's would be too bad also. Once you complete the transaction it's a done deal. The only time most sellers will get back to you on a question is BEFORE you make a purchase...and even then they don't get back to you for a couple days.

Why can't you contact the people at the old address? I mean if they already stole an iPod from you before, they would be chomping at the bit looking for the newest purchase. However, if you notified the police and had them pay a visit, they would be more inclined to turn over the wrong shipment. They might even be worried that it was a "sting" operation to get them back from last time.

Why would you leave him negative feedback for your error?

Because he received my email for the change at the same time as the confirmation of payment. Should have been an easy fix for most of us. That being said, it sounds like this guy is part of a large company and everything gets scheduled automatically so maybe he missed it. Also pissed that the location was listed as Seattle when it's not being shipped from there.

All in all, I won't give him negative feedback. Case closed.
