Two football rule changes that I think need to be changed

Been thinking about it for a few weeks now and some things don't make sense.

1) NFL pass interference should go from spot foul to a 15 yarder like college. Just way too many games and their outcomes being impacted by huge PI penalties. It changes the entire dynamic of the game. You have to hate to see the outcome of a game changed so drastically by a penalty. Case in point is the NYJ/Denver game today.

2) Interceptor in CFB when not touched should be able to get up (if he falls down after catch) and run with the ball. No reason he shouldn't be able to. Try and give me a good reason for this one not to happen.

1.) if you made that rule in the NFL, I would fire any secondary coach whose DBs give a completion for more than say 30 or 40 yards in the air. They would tackle every receiver on a go route.

It doesn't seem to impact the college game like you describe above.

Actually heard the discussion the other day and it got me thinking. No, it has nothing to do with the game today. Saw a big PI call in the Seattle/Chicago game on the first play from scrimmage. Almost a 50-yard play swings the entire game and field position. A penalty shouldn't impact the game like that.

While true, but what about the fact that in soccer a PK is almost certain goal? Here you are preventing the other team from executing but only pay a 15 yard penalty?

I think this rule is intact to protect the offensive players from getting hit on a run back. Last thing you want to see is a 19 year old QB getting concussed on a blindside block.

nfl needs to adopt the college rule where the clock stops on a first down to move the chains . nothing less exciting than watching a team run up to the line of scrimmage for a spike.

stop the clock on first downs during the last minute of each half.

Agree on the pass interference. Too many yards assigned to a judgement call. You could break that down I suppose (is it a 15 yard foul or at the spot of infraction?)

way too many cheap late hit penalties on outta bounds in both pro and college. seems like more then ever before. a guy from wisky rolls into an osu guy with a ton of momentum n gets flagged.

definitely agree on the pass interference penalty as well.

I agree on the PI. why should a refs call, or non-call, be such a game changing event.

Last year, they even called PI on a Hail Mary on one end of game situation, something I never saw the previous 40 years of watching games.

I think the problem with PI is that the refs call it too much on the defense and don't call it enough on the offense.

Agreed. This HAS impacted the college game. How many times have we seen a DB deliberately interfere to prevent the receiver from catching the ball far down field? This rule penalizes a receiver from being able to make a good play. That's bad for the game.

A rule should never encourage a player to foul.

On the INT....the rule would have to change that on ANY play. Either they are down when they hit the field or only when touched/tackled. Can't JUST be on an INT.

---

I'd like to see the NFL change the clock rules. They are so hell-bent on making the games last exactly 3 hours. It sucks for the fans. Stop the clock on first downs (restart when the ball is set). This would add probably 6 or more plays per game. When the ball goes out of bounds, don't start the clock until the ball is snapped (they start it when the ball is set). Non-sense! But, they want the game to end....so the next one can start on time.

If a team is up 6 and the other team is driving do you feel the game should be impacted by a penalty? Do you think with .05 on the clock and at your own 30 yard line that you possibly be given a first down on the 1 yard line? Shouldn't the team that's ahead be given the benefit of the doubt?
