NEW YORK

Police shot and killed a Pace University football player early Sunday morning as the student athlete tried to drive away from a noisy New York bar brawl at a popular campus hangout — and plowed into two cops, authorities said

Danroy Henry, a defensive player and junior at the university’s Westchester County campus north of New York City, was shot around 1:19 a.m. outside Finnegan’s Grill located in an enclave in Mount Pleasant, N.Y.

Henry was at the wheel of his car with a passenger when cops flooded into the Town Center at Thornwood, shopping plaza — responding to a chaotic brawl that had spilled out into the front of the bar, cops said.

When an officer from Mount Pleasant knocked on the driver’s side window, Henry suddenly gunned his accelerator, plowing into a cop from nearby Pleasantville.
"With the Pleasantville officer clinging to the hood of the car, [the car] continued to accelerate; the Pleasantville officer then fired at the driver," a statement from Mount Pleasant police said.

"The suspect vehicle continued ... heading directly toward another Mount Pleasant officer, who also fired at the vehicle. The vehicle then struck a parked Mount Pleasant police car coming to a stop."

Both Henry and his passenger were rushed to Westchester Medical Center, where Henry was pronounced dead. The passenger had only a "minor gunshot wound," the statement said.

Two officers were treated for injuries, including broken bones, and two others for trauma, authorities said.
"The Pace community is deeply saddened by the news that a Pace University student Danroy Henry was shot and killed by a Pleasantville police officer during an incident outside a Thornwood bar early Sunday morning," the university said in a statement.

"We extend the deepest sympathies of our community to Mr. Henry’s family and friends. We are working with the police investigation and as appropriate will share more information when it becomes available."

moral to the story kids : when a cop knocks on your window , put the car in park and open the window.

gunning the accelerator and running over cops might be hazardous to your health.

A car is considered a lethal weapon and if used as a leathel weapon then a cop is authorized the use of lethal force.

I'd like to know why he gunned it though? Mistake or what? I'm assuming they searched the car and found nothing or it would have been mentioned.

I have a general dislike of the police. However, as a former resident of Westchester County - and patron of Finnegan's - I can assure you the police in Mount Pleasant are about as reasonable as you will find.

This is being made out to be a cop bashing incident (in the media). That cop had every right to shoot the driver of that car. Unreal.....

Another piece of trash permanently disposed of. Shoot to kill is always the best policy...get scum off the streets and the taxpayer doesn't have to feed and shelter him.

From many of the comments above, I realize that a lot of people here are assuming that this kid who was shot and killed deserved what he got, but I'm not so sure. They sent 50 cops to this bar brawl. Sounds like the cops may have over reacted. Don't know if the passenger who was wounded is a reliable witness, but he and other witnesses are sure making it sound as though the police were overly aggressive in pulling out their guns and shooting this kid. There is the real possibility that this officer Hess jumped on the hood of the car and started shooting, while the driver was simply trying to move his car out of the fire zone. Henry was shot, then handcuffed, and dragged out of the car and left on the street without medical attention for many minutes. Perhaps the shooting was justified, but let's not assume Henry was scum.
