Why didnt Girardi pitch Andy Petitte in game 2 vs colby lewis and take a shot at being up 2-0 instead?

IMO that was the obvious choice after escaping game 1 with the win. YOu would think he would go with andy petitte and go for the 2nd win and go back to new york up 2-0 which in this case if cliff lee beats you (which he did) you still have a 2-1 lead and still control the series and can essentially can afford to throw burnett out there tomm without basically your season on the line.

Any reasoning im missing why he did not do this?

For whatever reason, Hughes pitches noticeably better on the road than at home, and had-notice the past tense-pitched especially well in Texas. The best laid plans of mice and men, and, the way the Rangers have outplayed the Yankees in almost every inning, the assumption that Pettite would've won Game Two is a dubious one, IMO.

well pettite still pitched awesome and lowered his era and also qualified for a quality start its just that vs cliff lee 1 run was enough to beat the yankees last night so imo they had a much better chance going with him in game 2 and go up 2-0 and roll the dice with hughes at home vs lee and if lose then so be it cause ur prolly gonna lose with any other matchup anyways.lol

it makes sense to pitch Hughes in game 3 against cliff lee. if hughes is that bad at home....no big loss there if he ends up sucking.

HOWEVER.......................

if hughes has to pitch again, it's game 7 on the road against Lee again and you dont want hughes pitching a game 7 against cliff lee

if this gets to a game 7, girardi must have pettitte in, not hughes.
