Game 4 (4:05 PM EST)
Texas +1.64 over N.Y. YANKEES
A rematch of game-1. CC Sabathia is hoping to rebound from a poor outing while Texas hopes CJ Wilson can match his sterling performance to open the series. Sabathia has thrown 237 innings this year, he threw 230 last season and he threw 253 innings in ’08. That’s a lot of miles and with a dumpster-fire bullpen behind him he probably figures ne needs to be near flawless. Other signs of fatigue: Sabathia’s game one first-pitch-strike percentage was under 50%. His career FPS mark is around 60%, and it was a tad lower this year at 58%. In the disastrous Ranger first, he threw just two first-pitch strikes and seven first-pitch balls. He threw 34 pitches, only 14 of them strikes (41%), and walked three, including a four-pitch walk and a five-pitch walk. In three of Sabathia’s last four starts he’s allowed 15 earned runs in 15.1 innings. Sabathia is 30-years old and he’s about 40 pounds overweight and while he’s certainly capable of throwing a gem, all signs point to that not likely happening. There are more reason to play against the Yanks. Through the first four games, Texas hitters have a combined .926 OPS. Five players (Cruz, Hamilton, Molina, Murphy and Treanor) are over 1.000. The Yanks were at .616 OPS, with Cano at 1.633, SS Derek Jeter at .871, and no other regular over .652. Four different Rangers have homered, but only 2B Robinson Cano, with three, has any swats for the Yankees. C.J. Wilson faced 27 Yankees in game-1 and threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of them – a 62% rate nicely up from his customary 55%-ish level. On the road this year, Wilson has thrown 89.2 frames and allowed 63 hits for a BAA of .201 and a road ERA of 2.91. He was an AL top-ten starter in many categories including wins, ERA and complete games. So, while you can never count the Yanks out, the fact is they look like a beaten team and you would have to be somewhat out of your mind to lay –1.75 with them today. Say goodbye to the New York Yankees and say goodbye to free-agent Derek Jeter in a Yankee uniform too. Play: Texas +1.64 (Risking 2 units).

SAN FRANCISCO +1.00 over Philadelphia
I was debating on this one for a while but have not written it up yet and I do apologize. However, for the record, I'm playing the Giants also.
(Risking 2 units).

Sorry to say, but at 229-262 I'm happily on the other side.

If you actually think Sabathia's fatigued, I think you're somewhat out of your mind.

I expect both to look pretty good today...real question is: how long will the Yankees bats play dead?

Before looking at the overall losing record --- look at the amount of units Sherwood's up on the year. 47.38 units is pretty stellar. This man obviously does quite well.

Ditto on percentage, units are what matter in a moneyline sport. Sherwood never backs a big chalk, if he does it is -1.5 for +money.

he's wrong here, though !

Say goodbye to the New York Yankees and say goodbye to free-agent Derek Jeter in a Yankee uniform too. Play: Texas +1.64 (Risking 2 units).

Jeter will be re-signed by the NYY for silly money...at least 25M and 2 years. He is too much of a fan favorite. He was great for 15 years or so....

now he is average at best. Yankee fans would be very upset if doesn't come back and at least get his 3,000th hit in the pinstripes.

No other team will want him for big money like 15M+ a season either.

I'd say he is worth 5M, but will get triple that in NY. Where can he go ?

Wow! Dedicated and decent record for Baseball. I would't fade Sherwood on any day.

Jeter is a fan favorite but it's a business. Just ask Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Mike Modano and many, many others.
Yanks are all about winning and a young, 25-year old SS that hits .300 with great range is the way they're going to go.
Yanks fans will forget about Jeter real fast. They won't pay him the money, mark my words...lol.

Won/Loss records mean shit! It's all about the UNITS, man!

Run along, rookie, back to the cheese factory you go.

"rookie" love it. Get back to me after 9 innings. Interesting figures too...being up 45 units on a 44% winning cut. Must've been loads of massive dogs in there.

CC...2 ernies in 6. Still throwing 94. He looks fatigued.

Master your a clown. Sherwood always provides insightful useful information on games. His record shouldn't matter to you. However, if you could read past a third grade level you would appreciate his baseball knowledge. Thanks Sherwood. Enjoyed reading your insight all season. However I disagree with you on Jeter. Yanks will absolutly resign him. They have no choice. Jeter can DH if his range declines, however I think his play this season in the field shows he hasn't slowed down much.

Dolts (granted, a marked few):

Only true dunderheads would spend the time to explain the "plus units" side of the line.

duh.

If you were keen enough to read between the lines (and I actually STATED such in the later post) you'd comprehend that being up 44 units with the number of plays he has, coupled with the winning % would require a very inordinate winning number of very large dogs.

"if you could beyond a 3rd grade level".

If only electronic muscles (and diarrhea of the mouth) ever measured up to reality. I'd love to see you make such a jack-ass remark in my presence...after I displayed my Master's, which required a modicum of reading and comprehensive ability...perhaps even beyond a 3rd grade level at times.

Thanks again to the fatigued CC and Yankees, btw.

And really, no offense Sherwood, your numbers could very well be legit- they just strike a numbers guy like me as a bit stretched.

As for Robin Hood's merry men...keep on truckin.
