How many points would this theoretical NFL situation be worth?

Say an average but dependable offensive tackle misses 3 games. The team was humming on offense before. The replacement is a 6th round rookie out of Alabama who the Boise State defensive lineman manhandled in the bowl game (it's theoretical, I can choose any situation I want damn it). Anyway, the lineman replacement commits an average of 3 false starts, 3 holding penalties, and 1 ineligible down field each game. The offensive scoring production falls off 8 points per game with him in there.

So, the main guy comes back. He's not the best lineman but he does a good job and limits penalties.

Would you even adjust the line a single point for his return?

hard to say cause i'm not good with lines....

but you bet your ass if i can guarantee 3 holding and 3 false starts every game vs. no penalties, that alone should be worth 3+ points.....and this is assuming they are equally effective....obviously this depends on the type of offense/defense both sides got going......a high scoring game would be more critical.

we are talking 6 drives that become VERY hard to get a first down.....if you convert on half of them you are LUCKY.....3 punts before the game even starts is huge.

well that's easy figure it like this ...2(3x - 7) + 4 (3 x + 2) = 6 (5 x + 9 ) + 3 The x-intercept is -5.25 ... so round it to 5.5 points
