I would like the phrase " How are you ? " taken out of the english language...

Unless you are going to actually have a conversation with the person asking it , it is a worthless greeting.

Just saying Hi is enough isnt it ?

I live in a condo and the lady next to me comes out on the front balcony to smoke and stink up my air. Always seems to happen as I am going or coming and I say hi and she always says " how are you ? " .. I'm fucking fine !!!!! .. Just like the last 200 times you asked me. I am close to saying , I'm fine , but would be a lot better if I didnt have to breathe that cigarette .

The " how are you " is not needed .. Just like this thread , which many of you will say.

At this point, I just don't answer the question. Pretend they didn't say it.

Maybe some people get offended, but meh. I hate insincere questions like that.

i guess my point , if their is a point to all this , does anybody really care when they ask someone " how are you ? " no, they dont... unless its someone you're about to have a conversation with . but those arent the people asking . they just say " hey " and the convo starts...

I had a neighbor get all pissed off at me at the mailbox because I didn't give him the BS greeting like " How are you ? "...some old geezer like 80 ( I don't know the guy at all, he just lives two buildings away).

Just say it, it won't kill you ! I don't want to hear about his artrihitis and bursitis and shit....and I'm sure he wouldn't tell me about it. I say something to him now if I pass him. That's all they want.

If I hold a door for a stranger, a TY is nice.

man it drives me nuts when I am leaving the 7eleven or Wawa and hold the door for someone and they just walk on by and don't even say anything....
