Dante, my mom's family is from France. I would consider living there (and other parts of Europe) a few months at a time...but not permanently. Same for CR and that part of the world.
I hope to retire around 52-55 years old (I'm 40 now)....I'll have two pensions (plus other money I have put away in Roth, 457 plans, 401K and a rollover IRA...plus a brokerage account)...so I should be able to live comfortably. My ideal plan is:
- Keep my condo in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (will have it paid off in about 11-12 years) and use it as a part-time residence.
- Stay in the DC area (Arlington, most likely) a few months a year. I'm debating buying some land about a 90 minute drive away near the Shanendoah's and possibly putting a small cabin out there.
- Travel a lot: Vegas a few times a year, Europe for a 2-6 week trip annually (free places to stay for some of the trip w/ family).
- Spend some of the year in Florida (beach, spring/fall - football season).
- Live in Lake Tahoe a few months during the winter to snowboard.
