personally i cant watch this sport. bores me to death. im a big fan of european football, which i know you guys hate for the most part, and i get told plenty that "hockey is soccer on ice." really, it isnt. the stars are playing the whole game for the most part in soccer (3 subs) and there are no timeouts or commercials (cept halftime). hockey you get guys coming in off the bench so often hard to know whos even playing, plus you have 2 intermissions which seems kinda ridiculous to me. i live in a big hockey town (bandwagon at least) but i really could care less about the game, i might check it out every so often during the playoffs, but i dont think ive watched a whole game other then being there, and i didnt even like that much.

I don't mind watching it if the teams are evenly matched and are playing well. But, as soon as one team is playing too defensive or just playing dump the puck, I change the channel.

Either way, the sport is unbettable for me. Way too much parity across the league and most results are determined in overtime or the shootout, which I am hugely against.

I still expect the league to pick up some steam next year when the two other major leagues might be going through a lockout, it might be the NHL time's to shine.

You really won't find me watching Hockey on TV. It would be Very Rare.

But I don't mind going to a Game, and I do once or twice a Year.

Years ago... Back in the 80's I was a season Ticket holder for the Islanders. Use them mainly to bring Clients to the game for a Night out. But I enjoyed it....back then

Just too much on my plate now to see a handful of games.
So a Good friend of the Family has Season Tickets and invites me to come watch a game or two.

But to Watch it on TV ?? Not Me.

Bandwagon? You really have no clue. Constant sell outs.

sold out when the team had 2 feet out the door 3 or 4 years ago? i didnt even know they still had a team til 2 years ago. they were one losing season from being gone forever.

not even that, you didnt see any penguins stuff out and about a few years back. they were like a winter version of the pirates, maybe even worse, since the older crowd was still attached to the pirates.

Try going back to the 2005 season. Like I said, no clue. Early 2000's, yes, they were rebuilding. What team doesn't?

the league ruined itself IMO by leaving canada and putting teams in miami phoenix and other southern locales. also, ESPN runs sports and has basically nothing to do with the sport anymore. i watched it when i was younger to be honest, but that was wayyyy back like 15 years at least. it shoulda stayed in the north and marketed itself as a regional entity.

im sure there were diehards, but if you look at it logically, id say at least 90% of their fans werent fans till 2 years ago.

This I will argue. I still party with lots of the same fans I did 20 years ago. However, there are lots of new fans because of little dudes getting older.

perhaps your right about the fans getting older. most hockey fans are younger (early 30s at most), i still know A LOT of people who coulda cared less 5 years ago and now are all about the pens.

Yea, but perhaps, but maybe you hang with people like yourself, who never really cared in the first place. Then yes, I'd call them bandwagoners ( if that's a word ) .

another thing i dont like about the game is that the regular season is completely meaningless almost. look how many times a 7 8 seed makes the stanley cup final. the point of a regular season is to set yourself up for the playoffs. last year the 7th seed plays the 8th seed in the eastern conference finals, it wasnt like that wasnt an uncommon occurence either. their playoffs should have 8 teams total at max to make the regular season more meaningful.

actually seem that we agree for the most part plastered, cept on the bandwagon fans. if you were such a diehard you should know that no one went to or cared about the games when the team sucked. i would think it was even worse in the 80s, i know one diehard fan who told me he had went all the time back in the day and had a whole row to himself and whoever he was with all the time.

im not calling you a bandwagon fan, i know there are diehards, i was making a generalization about the majority of the fans.

Baseball plays 162 games regular season, yet the Rangers, with the least amount of wins between the final 8, are playing in the WS.

Just curious.
