Pitbulls should be a zoo animal because people do not know how to properly care for them. Yea they are a dog and lots of people with pitbulls never have problems but it seems like 95% of all dog attacks on humans are done by pitbulls

You could argue that most dog attacks are by other breeds but the difference is that when a pitbull attacks it's usually deadly.

Pitbulls are great dogs. Anyone who says they are mean has never owned one. The stories you hear are from people who teach them to be mean. Never had a single problem with the one I owned or the few I've lived with. Blame the owners for fucking up the dogs.

Give me a gun and I won't shoot anyone. Give a gun to an idiot and I can't guarantee that. Same here. Same with an automobile. Put in the wrong hands, anything is dangerous. Just so happens that people like to raise pit bulls to fight and that's where they get the bad rep from.

Lots of dogs would be considered "killers" and all this other BS is people bred them to fight and to be mean. They don't, and pits get the bad wrap.

Jake T, so you're completely ignoring genetics? Pitbulls are genetically designed for violence.

Im sure most owners who were attacked by these killing machines once thought they were a great dog.

Breeds were created to have certain characteristics. Dachsunds dig by instinct. Border collies can round up flocks without training. Retrievers love the water. These are things they're born with. It was nothing to do with the owner. Instincts can be honed or repressed somewhat by training, but that doesn't mean they're not present. Pit bulls were bred to fight and kill. That's it. That's the entire reason the breed was made.

Under normal circumstances a pit bull raised and trained to be gentle will behave that way, but that doesn't mean they won't revert to instinct under the right circumstances. There's no way I would ever allow one around a child. No more than I would allow a python or any other dangerous animal.

I don't own a pitt, I've had 2 rotts, and they're considered a dangerous breed under most guidelines. My current rott, I spent a shit load training her and she doesn't make a move without looking at me to see if it's okay. I don't buy this pits are just born bad bullshit but they are incredibly strong and if you aren't prepared to take the necessary steps to train it, and I don't mean basic obedience I mean so you have solid control over your dog, then you shouldn't own one. Too many people think because a pups cute and it grew up with the family and never shown aggression that it doesn't need advanced training cause it's not a problem dog but that's one that could likely be a problem, cause it's an animal, something sets it off, if you don't have total control to be able to shut that down your dog could hurt someone. That's on the owner, how often do you hear of a dog that's well trained going off? I'm sure it's happened anything can happen but the incidents would be far and few in between. The problem isn't the dogs, it's people who should never have these dogs that are the problem. You aren't going to train the dog, you aren't going to treat the dog well, the dogs just there to be part of your image, then you are fucking up a good dog. My dog was bit by a small little yappy dog, untrained my dog could've torn that thing in pieces but I gave one command and she backed up and laid down while that thing ran and it's owner came trying to yell at me cause my dog scared hers lol. She ended up paying my dogs vet bill after the dog park who all knew my dog came running up telling her to back off. Little dog owners are the worst, they have zero control but they think their dog cant do serious damage so they don't care and in a way they're right. I lose control my dog could hurt someone so I have to make the extra effort if I want this dog.

very true, I trust my dog completely but would I leave it alone around a child unsupervised no, that's not just on my dog but kids being kids, my cousin when he was very young and didn't know any better grabbed a broom and just hit their shephard, dog didn't do anything but if it's being hit, you never know when they will. If you're not there to put a stop to the situation that's just a risk you don't need to take.

So are humans. What's your point? Guns are designed for violence. Doesn't mean that all guns cause violence.

The fact of the matter is that I've been around numerous pit bulls who were great around kids and never cause fights because they were trained not too. You guys can speculate with your opinion based on newspaper articles all you want but I've had first-hand knowledge and been around them. Not going to convince me otherwise.

Just because the newspaper reports that a black man killed someone in town last night doesn't mean that all black men are murderers. Not sure why people don't use the same rational thought process in figuring out pit bulls.

Fuck that. I will always argue its the owner not the dog.

We have a 4 yr old pitbull. I have 3 girls. 12, 15 & 16 yrs old. We live in an upper middle class neighborhood. There is no stereotype. My dog is the pride of the neighborhood. We bring Louie out to all the neighborhood gatherings and block parties. He plays with all the other dogs in the neighborhood including the tiny yorkies and lassaopso's. He is 100% socially adjusted. I have never had an incident with him. Dogpark, walking in the neighborhood, around kids and neighbors. Nothing. When we have BBQ's or gatherings at the house he is unleashed in the backyard with everyone else.
